Entertainment center suggestions

Hey guys!

Hubby and I are expecting our tax return next week, and like any responsible person would do, we are spending it on a flat panel TV lol. It's our first flat screen, so we have to get a new stand as well, the problem is, we need space for our 3 video game consoles and Zac's PC that he's has since High school and refuses to part with lol.
So I was wondering, what does everyone else use to store their video game consoles? and is there some awesome media center out there that we're just not aware of?

Thanks
Laina

Re: Entertainment center suggestions

My boyfriend and I have a lousy hand me down entertainment center. We are both still in college, and this was the best thing we can get until we have enough money to buy a better one. Our Wii, Xbox360, and ps3 are under it (pretty responsible future teachers, eh?) On top of it, is out 46" flat screen TV (I bought it for him for Christmas, talk about saving)

For an entertainment center, you can always try overstock.com. There are some really nice things on it for a good price, and the shipping is very cheap.
Good luck :D

Re: Entertainment center suggestions

Overstock.com is a GREAT place for entertainment centers at a reasonable price.

I use a rather pricey one from one of those nice furniture stores where you can customize everything (Perhaps Bassett? But they're all the same) because it was a gift from my boyfriend's parents when we got our new place. I don't remember the exact price, but we have a 55" that it holds nicely as well as our large receiver, Bluray player, cable box, two X-boxes (Don't ask why two if you're a good person...), a Wii in a fancy cooling dock with the Wiimotes charging on each side, all the games for the systems, and a little water fountain... 'cause why not have a little water fountain?

It's only under the TV and just a little longer than it, a few feet high. If you want more information, I can get you the specifics, but it probably costs the same or more than the TV.

Re: Entertainment center suggestions

We had no idea what we were missing until We played Left 4 Dead on my parents HDTV. We can't even read most of the text on our games lol.

iamadecoy, Thanks for the info. I don't know if we could afford that right now, but it's good to know that the option is out there. I would never ask why you have two xboxes lol. We have so many systems-it's crazy. My 3-year-old has her own DS, because I was tired of sharing mine lol

I think it would be fun if everyone posted pics of their entertainment centers and all of their games systems. That would be fun..but I want to wait until I have my new, nice furniture lol

Re: Entertainment center suggestions

I can do that sometime....You can see what a cluttered college students apartment looks like >_<

(I laughed out loud about the DS for your daughter. My nephew has his own as well now, because he got so curious about mine my brother ended up buying him one as well.) :)

Re: Entertainment center suggestions

I have pictures! Not all my consoles are there, though. The older ones are downstairs with the DDR. (DDR is too loud for anything but the basement!)

The decals on the walls are from an amazing seller here on Etsy. I highly recommend them! If anyone is interested, look through my purchase history.

Re: Entertainment center suggestions

Stefinnthebox, that is too funny about your nephew. I know a lot of people that would freak out about a preschooler owning a DS, and I honestly fought it for a while, but they have lots of games for her age and she's really learned a lot and she's happy, so I'm happy lol

Re: Entertainment center suggestions

that's a good idea! Very green of you.

LOL @ *enter the trailer trash*

we've decided to hang the TV on the wall and use our bookcases as storage. We plan on getting a bigger apartment late fall/early summer, and then I'm sure we'll go all out and get the gamer storage of our dreams lol

Re: Entertainment center suggestions

We have zero room, so our "entertainment area" also happens to be our dresser at the foot of the bed. :P So, yeah, I win at losing! We just keep the 360 hooked up to it, since we have various other crap plugged in and taking up space along with the TV (blu ray, cable, etc.)... everything else that's non-hd is just on a shelf next to the old pawn shop TV I've had for like 12 years, to be plugged in as needed. My husband is a total pack rat about his old consoles, so we have a lot of them.

I have to agree about Overstock. They have excellent customer service, too, should anything be broken/damaged in shipping.

Stefinnthebox, your house isn't that bad! I LOVE your coraline poster too :) I was expecting something out of hoarders lol

jujusjewelry, thanks for the info. I;m hearing good things about overstock.com so I think we'll definitely use them when we're ready :)

We're getting our new furniture on Monday or Tuesday, so hopefully we'll be able to take lots of pic soon. I'm so excited!

Re: Entertainment center suggestions

I'm a so called "core" gamer, I too have to deal with space issues. My unit is from IKEA, who have some pretty affordable set ups that can be customized for how much storage you need. Personally, I keep my PC unit on the floor, while consoles and the DVR box take up the actual unit.

Re: Entertainment center suggestions

I have Franken furniture made from sacrificed bits of 80's decor. My entertainment center is actually a long dresser, a glass front entertainment center (the kind with a CD rack built in, lol) and a shorter wardrobe. The wardrobe houses an old emachines PC that's hooked up to the tv.

I won't even discuss what my bedroom looks like. Here's a hint: I have three computers, and my bedroom entertainment unit is built out of broken desks put together around a rat cage. With rats still living in it. XD

Re: Entertainment center suggestions

@Sabrieth I think we have similar decorating tastes. :P Except we have bird cages with birds. And every surface in my living space is covered with things. Things that should not be there.

Re: Entertainment center suggestions

Taste? lol, what's that? I think my animals have it... they're the ones that decide where things should go.

Cat #1: No no - you cannot put anything on this dresser. It's the best spot for us to sun ourselves.
Cat #2: And this blanket belongs on the cabinet above the fridge. Best place for my after breakfast nap, you know.
Dog: Couch needs to be over here *flying leap onto couch, shifting it 2 feet the other direction*
