Your Related Blogs, Message Boards and Such

I'm quite excited about having somewhere to discuss these things. I know that Live Journal and Deviant Art both have their related forums but I'm already so well spread out over the internet that I didn't want to have to join yet another site.

Most of my bone collecting and art discussions actually take place on Flickr and Facebook where I've found friends who share similar loves.

PLEASE share your blogs, boards, Flickr, facebook or whatever else here. I LOVE talking about bone collecting and have been doing it since I was 7-yrs-old!

My bone collecting blog BoneLust - http://bone-lust.blogspot.com/

BoneLust related collections on Flickr - http://www.flickr.com/photos/gato-ranch/collections/72157623006242607/

We tried to start a bone collector message board but it never stayed active and got SPAMed to death sadly. But there are some interesting discussions here - http://www.thefreezerfriends.com/forum/index.php

My business related Facebook where I post about my photography, art and jewelry - https://www.facebook.com/jana.miller.photography

Thanks for having me! jana

That's my Flickr - sometimes there are bone pics on there, but also art and general nature photography too.

Great, thanks!

I'm surprised there aren't more responses to this thread.

PS - You should promote that flickr "Fur, hide & bone" group for sure! I just applied to join. :)

Re: Your Related Blogs, Message Boards and Such

I'm still working on a lot of these things, so most will be nothing more than a blank page, but here's my stuff:

Website (web design, logo design, jewellery, art):
http://www.aranea.ca

Facebook Page:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Aranea-Designs/142901202390906

DeviantArt:
http://aranea-designs.deviantart.com/

Twitter:
http://twitter.com/#!/araneadesigns

Blogspot:
http://araneadesigns.blogspot.com/

Flickr:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/aranea-designs/

I've been thinking about signing up for a few other services such as these, but it's probably not really necessary. I'll just forget to use them.

Great, thank araneus... adding/follow you anywhere I am also. ;)

It is important when it comes to the cyber-world to not spread yourself too thin. Keep up with the sites that you are most comfortable using and let the others go. Especially if some are so similar.

I no longer even use MySpace and found Twitter so similar to Facebook but without the more personal interaction. So I focus predominately on promoting myself on FB. I make most of my sales because of it actually!

Re: Your Related Blogs, Message Boards and Such

Jana, that's really unfortunate about your message board. I had considered offering to host something like that myself if there was enough interest, but I wasn't sure if there would be. If there's anything I can do to help, I've designed layouts for a number of phpBB forums and I've done plenty of research into blocking spam attacks. I'm very familiar with the software because I've been using it for the past 8 years.

Re: Your Related Blogs, Message Boards and Such

I've moderated a few boards that were very active in the past but keeping up with the spam is so hard. I don't think any of us had looked at it for months so it got to be far too much for anyone to cleanup. Most of the people on that board were friends of mine from Flickr and people we invited. Plus, the fact that no notifications were sent out of new posts made it a total dead zone... in a bad way. ;)

If you were to create a much more user friendly and interactive board I'd be happy to be one of the moderators. Plus, I'd be sure to invite those more active bone collector friends over. Oh and it isn't limited to just that. Taxidermy and specimen collecting are also included. But the main focus is on bone collecting.

PS - I apologize but I'm at a loss... what is your name?

Re: Your Related Blogs, Message Boards and Such

I'm Lisa. :)

And I would be happy to host a forum for this hobby if everyone else is interested as well. I have lots of hosting space and I wouldn't mind paying for a domain name for it since they are always reasonably priced. Setting it up won't be an issue at all because I've done it hundreds of times with other forums.

However, I'd want to be sure to run it by the owners of the Fur, Hide and Bone Livejournal community that has inspired so many of these smaller groups. Don't want to step on any toes, nor do I want to take discussion away from there, of course!

Re: Your Related Blogs, Message Boards and Such

OK, that sounds like the best plan. As far as getting the OK goes anyway. Although, it doesn't have to be directly associated with the LJ FHB page necessarily. And can, maybe should, be called something entirely different. No offense but I wouldn't want the discussions there to be restricted in any way. And if there were some kind of guidelines I'd want to know what they are first.

Question - Does the LJ page have an info page I can read about the purpose of it and etc. I'm not a member. And how does someone own that name? Has it actually been copyrighted? I guess I just thought LJ was an early blog site, and to my understanding the LJ FHB page was a place more like a forum for those LJ members to share related stuff.

Not trying to step on any toes, just trying to understand what's going on from an outsiders viewpoint.

Re: Your Related Blogs, Message Boards and Such

You should be able to read the community information at the link below. Lj is free to join if you're interested. A lot of the posts are friends locked for privacy, but as soon as you join, you'd be able to read them. There is a ton of great information there!

http://furhideandbone.livejournal.com/profile

And I do totally understand what you're saying. Nothing is copyrighted and the name wouldn't need to be the same at all, but I just felt that it would be polite to make sure the owners don't have an issue with it since that community is what got me started on all of this to begin with.

Either way, I'm happy to set up and host it if there's enough interest and if people feel that it would benefit our hobby. :)

Re: Your Related Blogs, Message Boards and Such

Not quite a blog, but Witchvox finally published my latest article on animal parts and paganism: http://www.witchvox.com/va/dt_va.html?a=usor&c=words&id=14543

This is a little more general than the one I published there back in 2009, "Do You Have Eagle Feathers?": http://www.witchvox.com/va/dt_va.html?a=usor&c=words&id=13490

So for those of you who are interested in the spiritual aspects of working with animal parts, there's just a little taste! You can find out more at my blog, http://therioshamanism.com , where I've been writing about this topic for some time. And I also have my book, "Skin Spirits: The Magical and Spiritual Use of Animal Parts" (at http://www.thegreenwolf.com/skinspirits.html ) for those who like longer reads (and instructables!)

Re: Your Related Blogs, Message Boards and Such

Hi everyone! I've never posted here before, but now that I have too much free time on my hands I've made it a goal to try and network more and make more friends who are interested in this kind of craft. I don't really know anyone in real life who I can discuss bones, taxidermy, etc with!
Here are my links:
Tumblr: www.toothandclawjewellery.tumblr.com
Facebook: www.facebook.com/toothandclawjewellery
Instagram: www.instagram.com/toothandclawjewellery // @toothandclawjewellery

I also have a blogspot, but I very very rarely update it. Although, I may start using it more now so I can follow you guys :)
