Drilling holes in bone

Hi! So awesome that I found you guys! I was wondering if anyone can help me with this: I recently bought a few small jaw bones, and bobcat toe bones to make something for myself with. I was wondering if there is a specific drill bit that I should get or a certain technique I should apply? I tried using a regular thin bit for a tiny hole, and it kinda "bounced" right off...but how do you make a "starter" hole in bone?? I would be MUCH appreciative of any help! Thanks in advance! ~Kristy

Re: Drilling holes in bone

Hi Kristy, I use a Dremel moto tool with a diamond tipped bit to start holes, then whatever size drillbit I need. And carefully clamp your bone in a hand vise or you could get a nasty hole in your hand! And wear a mask,I do just to be safe.

Re: Drilling holes in bone

I use a dremel with regular drill bits, on high speed. In my experience, the "bouncing" effect is common at first, but overcome with some practice - you can't be too hesitant when applying the drill to the bone. Definitely wear a dust mask and goggles, to prevent inhaling the bone dust or getting it in your eyes.
