what does MARK mean?

on the right hand side of a post there's a box that says:

this discussion is public/private

What does the MARK button do? I clicked on it and it just flipped to UNMARK! HELP!

You just marked the thread you were on.
If you go to the left you see under teamsand forums your threads.
Click that and you see threads you posted on and marked threads. Marked threads makes it easy to find threads you don't want to forget.
