Fossil Hunting

Some of my favourite childhood memories were hunting for fossils with my family in Republic, Washington and just outside Dinosaur Provincial Park in Alberta. In Republic, we spent hours tapping flakes of shale to see what their layers revealed... I remember finding fern fossils and leaves, as well as an insect! In Alberta, we collected small fragments of fossilized dinosaur bone that had weathered out of the sandstone and been exposed on the surface.

More recently, some friends and I ventured along the Dorset coast in England after a storm to search for newly exposed fossils along the cliffs... I think we came home empty handed and soaked, but thrilled nonetheless!

Well, since I was a child I have been hunting for fossils, and have found many. I have found fossils in Utah, Florida, Ohio, New York, Colorado, Maine, and Maryland.

I have shared a link below to one of my favorite places to go in Maryland, it is a trek to get to where the good stuff is, and carrying the gear can be cumbersome, but it is totally worth it in the long run.
