TIP: Don't post too often / Schedule your posts

Fans unlike/hide pages who post too often. Facebook also starts to treat these pages as 'spammy' and doesn't show these posts to as many fans.

While it is a good idea to post daily, try not to post more than 3 posts a day. 1-2 posts are ideal.

Also, since posts continue to appear for a few hours, try and keep around 3 hours between posts if possible.

To make this easier, you can use the post scheduler:
- Type in your post in the 'Status update' box.
- Click on the little ‘clock’ icon immediately below the text. It's the one on the extreme left.
- You can now choose what time you would like your post to appear.

IMPORTANT:
Make sure you are using Facebook as your business and not as you personal profile, else this option won't show.

Re: TIP: Don't post too often / Schedule your posts

Great tip!!! I am always wondering how often? How many? Plus I had no clue that you can schedule your posts directly on Facebook! Awesome

Glad you found it helpful, Marissa :)

Using an external scheduler can sometimes lower your Facebook Edgerank i.e. Facebook shows this post to fewer people.

However, if you use Fb's own scheduler, there is no negative effect on your post's visibility.

Re: TIP: Don't post too often / Schedule your posts

Thank for the tip, Sahiba!

Please can you tell me if I'm doing it right to post all the personal things from my profile and my business items, from the page associated with my Etsy business?
Does it count in my case?

Re: TIP: Don't post too often / Schedule your posts

Hi Savenna,

It's always best to keep your personal profile and business page separate as you already seem to be doing.

How often you post from your personal profile will not affect your business page's ranking. Just try not to post more than 1-3 times a day from your business page.

Re: TIP: Don't post too often / Schedule your posts

I occasionally post from my business page to my personal page. Is that appropriate? Also, I notice when I use the automatic "post to facebook" button after I list an item it doesn't give me any information as to how many viewed the post. If I then post an alternate view from the pictures of the item I get a count of views. Why is this?

Re: TIP: Don't post too often / Schedule your posts

Hi Katherine,

Yes, it's fine to occasionally post from your business page onto your personal profile. Just make sure that your personal profile is not being used primarily to promote your business.

Regarding the count of views discrepancy, I'd suggest asking Etsy admin on the forums. Sorry I can't be more helpful about this, but this seems to be an Etsy issue.

Re: TIP: Don't post too often / Schedule your posts

UPDATE: The 'schedule post' link has now moved.

1. Type in your post in the 'Status update' box.
2. Click on the downward facing arrow on the 'Post' button
3. Select 'Schedule post'

Re: TIP: Don't post too often / Schedule your posts

One thing I did not realize is that someone can Like and thus follow my business page but someone said they could not message me via the business page (they were Canadian) w/o being invited to my personal account. Is this correct?

I've schedule posts and it's good to know that twice a day is fine! I space it out for one early in the morning around 7 a.m. and another around 4 p.m. Although if I do find something interesting I do share it onto my business page.

Re: TIP: Don't post too often / Schedule your posts

Same thing here Rebecca, I've had many customers say they can not message me on FB. So they just emailed me. Not sure why.

Also we FB I don't have much engagement there, it's kind of frustrating. I have over 1,000 likes too and do not post often.

Re: TIP: Don't post too often / Schedule your posts

@Rebecca - usually, any Facebook user can message you on your business page (they don't need to like your page or be a friend on your personal profile). However I just checked the FB forums and it looks like there is a bug in FB which is causing messaging problems for a lot of people.

FB thread: https://www.facebook.com/help/community/question/?id=694942627286212

Hopefully, it will be fixed soon.
