Is 3-D printing handmade?

3-D printing is growing in popularity.

The new 3-Doodler is an amazing pen that is now used to draw 3-D objects in air!! (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1351910088/3doodler-the-worlds-first-3d-printing-pen)

Etsy rules classify 3-D printed pieces as 'handmade' and allow them to be sold on Etsy.

What do you think? Should 3-D printing be considered 'handmade'?

WOW! I think it has the potential to be a tool for creating amazing art! I can see this tool being used to make frameworks for sculptures, for example.
As with any tool, there are those who will use it to make mundane, cliched, copycat objects, while others wil display skill, creativity and originality. Just as some paintings are art, while some are not.

I wouldn't really call 3D printing 'handmade', but it is amazing technology nonetheless :-)

3D printing is different from the 3D doodler. Even so, if the original object is handmade and unique, 3D printing could be compared to etching, where the original artwork can be replicated multiple times and is sold as art.
