You posted this 11 freaking hours ago.
This is why I miss the old ways!! It would take maybe 8 seconds to get a response!

About to go sew something new from something old...what are you up to?

Re: Random Chat Thread - Part One

I know, I just love the new forums. (blarg.)

I am sitting here playing with this odd orange knit stuff. I am trying to figure out if it should be pants..or a top. I don't have a lot of experience with knit fabric so I'm paranoid..lol. I got the ball point needles but what stitch to use? aaah.

Hmmm,
make cute volleyball shorts...they would be quick to sew and would be sellable. (not really a word, but works for me)

I don't know...ok, must pull self away from checking on teams and go sew.
Wait, i want to eat first...

Re: Random Chat Thread - Part One

Oh man I can't even fathom sewing to sell. The seams would need to be straight. Sigh..lol. I'm better now that I got a new machine.

Re: Random Chat Thread - Part One

Knits sew up really well on a serger...once you get it threaded properly. I did some hemming (sleeve cuffs AND pant legs) for a lady last week that I NEVER would have attempted on a regular sewing machine. Did a cover stitch & they came out just like the ones on store-bought. And I HATE hemming. easy-peasy.

I got a shot in the spine yesterday, so today I could walk AND sit - whoohoo - celebrated by making 23 (yup, TWENTYTHREE) potato baker bags. Prepping for my final craft sale of the season tomorrow. After that - it ALL goes in the shop! YAP! Oh, and I have custom order in the works -
6 placemats & a table runner (all quilted blocks) - same lady requested a toaster cover in addition, to match. Hope I have enough fabric left over, 'cuz the shop is out of it!

Re: Random Chat Thread - Part One

Sewwhatsnew...yeah, I actually find it a bit stressful even though I love sewing. So many opportunities for mistakes in sewing!

SewWrite--you're an animal! My mom used to get those shots and they really helped. I am impressed with your production level!

Re: Random Chat Thread - Part One

I've had a serger for over a year now and haven't played with it much. I'm new to serging, took the store's class, and that's been it. I really want to master the machine, the finishes are so nice on clothing.

Re: Random Chat Thread - Part One

I've never used a serger. I have a babylock which I love.
Is a serger used mostly for finishing edges?

Re: Random Chat Thread - Part One

I have a BabyLock too. From the class I took, some sergers can sew seams but mine is pretty basic and I think just finishes edges with a couple different stitches. I really need to bring it out of the mothballs and practice.

Re: Random Chat Thread - Part One

Hi madametosh,
My machine has several special stitches for finishing seams.
If you practice you may end up finding yourself sewing and sewing....and not wanting to stop!
