4 Tips for Presenting Complex Information:

At some point in your career, it's likely that you will be faced with the challenge of presenting a complex topic in terms simple enough for anyone to understand. It can be quite the task to pare down a sprawling topic into a compact and focused presentation, but it's far from impossible. Follow these four tips and you'll be on your way to delivering complex presentations in a clear and concise manner.

1 - Limit key points to three or less and break down information into small chunks. Cut down what you intend to deliver, you should include much less information than you might normally cover. Narrow your focus and be sure not to crowd the main message with extra ideas.

2 - Summarize key points with a simple info-graphic. Keep support materials and references for distribution after the presentation. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Graphics can help to illustrate key points with minimal description. If you distribute supplemental materials with informative graphics after the presentation, it will help your audience retain the key points.

3 - Keep it interactive. Ask questions and allow for responses. Anticipate audience questions, especially confrontational ones, so that you're not caught off guard.

4 - Transform dry topics with humor and storytelling. These topics can quickly lose your audience or put them to sleep if you're not careful. Make sure to include relevant anecdotes and some well-placed humor to keep things light and your audience engaged.
