I used to not care at all for views, but...

It helps to have a reference to see if people notice.

Seriously, I used to be the cold, "I could care less for views, I only care for sales." I'm not saying those who do this are cold, but I certainly was a few months ago.

But when you're not getting sales, you look at other venues to try & solve the problem. Then I realized, "No one is looking at my shop!" Yeah, suddenly that big "0" on the views became a big deal.

So, I was glad when Etsy started the Shop Stats. And, with an increase in views, I got an increase in sales.

Well, not that drastically, but things have been better in the "people notice me" division than usual.

So yeah, that's my rant for the night/morning depending on how you view 3am in the US. lol

Re: I used to not care at all for views, but...

When I was new, I was obsessed with hearts more so than the views. I would look at my views and see not many hearts think no one loves me. Now I honestly don't look at my hearts or stats except maybe once or twice a month.

For myself at least it relieved a stress. What I do search for is key words, in Google and on Etsy to make sure I'm some where in the first few pages.

Re: I used to not care at all for views, but...

Maybe because my jewellery is pricey, but it takes 600 views before I get a sale. Six HUNDRED! (sorry for yelling, but that's a lot of views)

So getting more and more views is pretty important for me, because obviously an awful lot of people have to look at my work before someone buys. I certainly don't sell impulse-buy items.

Good point Jennifer, my shop is the same way. I don't think I get any impulse buys.

I have been lucky here, as I was syndicated early and even before the changes here I concentrated on my shop being found more on Google than Etsy. I never did the relisting to keep on top. Prior to the changes percentages from Google were always higher than Etsy.

Re: I used to not care at all for views, but...

I'm the opposite, Dawn. I get the odd view from google every day, but my customers have always been etsy customers first. I used to ask every buyer how they came across my shop and the answer was always the same - "I was searching through etsy and found your jewellery". So it made sense for me to renew pre-relevancy, and it's just as important for me to be relevant now.

Someday I'll delve into paid advertising - haven't gone down that road yet.

Re: I used to not care at all for views, but...

This is very interesting. It really does make a difference what you sell. On average, I get a sale about every 200 to 300 views, or about every 100 hearts - that works out to about every third day or so. But if I break it down according to what I sell, I get an order for a keychain or bookmarks (inexpensive impulse items) after about 10 or so views in one of those. Pricier items take more views before someone bites.

I don't really get too stressed over views unless there's a big dip in the number - but I can usually predict why & I can see it coming - either I haven't listed or renewed in a couple of days, or I've been away from the computer too long and I've become invisible (this has been less of a problem since I've been hanging out with you guys!).

I pay attention to views, but I rarely look at hearts. I heart items for so many reasons (treasuries, likes, resellers), that I am sure others are doing the same.
I like the google analytics the best. I especially like the real time since it's fun to see increases of views when you list an item, or make changes in your shop.

Re: I used to not care at all for views, but...

I average a thousand views per sale, my average sale is about sixty bucks.
it's art, though. I've got that many people watching my shop from outside etsy, when I post something one of them likes it'll sell in five minutes with no views.

to someone who signed up just to buy it.

I like the views though, with art it's all about the right person at the right moment..
