How to measure blog give away success?

Hello everyone.

I have tried to host a give-away and I failed! miserably! But that is because I am not a blogger myself, so how could I?

I have been asked now several times if I want to sponsor a give-away on someone else's blog. She has ~2500 blog followers and ~2800 facebook fans and I think that is a decent amount. So if I sponsor this give-away: what should I pay attention to? An increase of views, yes-sure! But what else?

WHAT MAKES A GOOD GIVE_AWAY???

I am sure many other blog-newbies have the same question and I would really appreciate your tips.

Nic, I wish I had some helpful words. I went bananas and am currently having giveaways on several blogs.

I've had a lot of obligatory views ("Fave the shop! Leave your favorite item in the comments!") but no foreseeable sales from them.

Ah, well. It is what it is! :P

I did a few blog giveaways and to be honest I don't find them successful. Like Phanie said you will get obligatory views, and likes ~ but these people are looking for freebies and most likely will never visit your shop again to purchase anything.
I have been learning more toward blog interviews. You answer a few questions, they feature your shop along with a coupon code. At least in this case your not out an item.

On the upside, favorites help our relevancy (I think). Either way, they can't hurt :P

For me, I don't have much to lose because I sell PDF files. I can understand how much more of a loss it is for others who sell tangible items- you have to be extremely picky.

The best results ive had were with Freebies and Giveaways on Facebook. They do a FUNtastic Friday giveaway every week through their Blog/FB page.. I've done it twice and had great results. They have 17,500 likes on their page which translates into tons of traffic for you if you have an item in the giveaway. I'm gearing up to do another soon.
