Elephants being killed

I was heart broken to read this story:

I have been a member of the WWF for over 10 years and they have this great fundraiser for individuals to help. I started my site below to anyone that is interested in donated to the WWF.

You can search google news. You would not believe how many elephants have been killed! At a African wildlife refuge! I think they need to spend more money on security.

I've heard other this about zoo's in Europe where the ill animals because it's less expensive than keeping them alive. I'm sure it's complex, but still heartbreaking!

I watched a documentary on it years ago and it's sad that it
is still going on. Such an easy target. :(
Most of the locals just don't care and see them as pest and a
way to make big $$$$$.

After reading the article, it reminded a bit of the situation we have with the wolf population here in Idaho.

People have grown weary of their population and feel its acceptable to kill them, elephants not as ravenous and territorial as wolves but I would imagine in some areas considered very common place and a pesky wild animal.

Very Sad all the same.

Yep this has been going on for decades. I am a contributor to WWF very good group.

Mickey wolves there, coyote here. They are just showing back up around here and people are shooting them. Pest, they call them

I've been following the elephants plight, and also am a member of the WWF. I cannot look at anything with photos- it kills me :-(

Mickey I just read that. It is so horrible. I use to be really into the giving to the stopping of horse slaughter even won an award for the work I did. It gets to you, I was so depressed all the time I just had to take a break from it.

Right now though locally we are doing a peanut butter drive until the 24th. This helps the local hungry local kids.

For those that are already members please start a fundraiser for yourself. Every little bit helps.

I had no idea you could choose an animal on their website and open a page from there- that's great! I have never been on their website as I had set up auto donations many years ago through the mail. I like that its a donation to a specific breed, as some like the elephant are in more of a dire situation.

Also handy that I could use my checking account to donate online as well- maybe we could all pass the page Dawn set up on to our friends and family.
