Couch to 5k

Anyone else doing it??

I'm going to start today! There's a 5k in West Seattle at the end of May, that I'm gonna shoot for. It's overlooking Puget Sound and the city skyline, so I can't wait!

I'm not by any means a runner or in fantastic shape, but I think I'm going to start on week 2 or 3 since week 1 seems a little... slow. Also, the program is for 9 weeks, and the 5k I'm shooting for is about 5 weeks away, so if I push for more than 3 days a week, maybe I'll be ready!

Re: Couch to 5k

Also, it'll be a good reason to get off my ass when sitting at my computer staring at my unchanging Etsy shop.

sarah-

i use this app http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/get-running-couch-to-5k/id319043985?mt=8

i just have an ipod touch, but this has worked great for me- gives you the directions, but you listen to your own music. plus it's a nice british lady telling you what to do. ;)

Re: Couch to 5k

^Ooh! I think I have iOS3 on my iPod Touch, so that should work! (mine's old though, and is having issues downloading ANY apps, so we'll see....) The one I was trying to get was free, but apparently my iPod is too outdated for it...

Re: Couch to 5k

my ipod is by no means new. ;) and the app is totally worth $3 or whatever. it's really hard to figure out what your intervals are, and who wants to stare at the clock the whole time?

if you don't care about music, there are free podcasts you can download that do the same thing, but they have a music track (pretty generic electronic music).

WHAAAAAATTT!!?!?

That's so crazy! I just moved here literally 3 weeks ago, from California. I've been applying non-stop for dayjobs, and finally I am in review for a position with BECU, but it looks like the new employee orientation isn't until June. SOooooo that means a whole month of sitting in my apartment bored as hell!

I am definitely going to download that app! Hopefully they have it for Android.

Re: Couch to 5k

I'm on Week 6 day 2! It's pretty good program. I use my iPhone and it works great! In a previouse life (before children) I was a hurdler in college. So I've done lots of running. I like the intervals with this program. The only down side is I haven't lost any weight and not sure why? I don't over eat. So anyhow, I have to go run to the store. Good Luck with Couch to 5K! Well have to keep up with each other.

Brittany-
What I was going to say was, there are probably so many great coffee shops around here! I haven't gotten a chance to do much exploring other than a couple trips downtown and a trip to Bainbridge Island to visit Churchmouse Yarn.

We have a smiliar store too! Soooo awesome!

Leah,
That is awesome! That is always one thing that concerns me is doing cardio and not noticing weight results... However I can definitely tell that my endurance changes when I keep with it. Do you feel better than when you started?

Re: Couch to 5k

Thanks, Monica! I do feel better than when I started. I know I have lost inches around my love handles. I get up earlier and have time to clear my head before everyone else is up and around, which is really nice.

Re: Couch to 5k

I did the first half of it until I hurt my knee. Now I just can't get my mojo back.

And...you just made me miss Seattle like crazy! Enjoy the race!

Brittany-don't skip. Just keep doing it. The program is designed to start easy!

Re: Couch to 5k

Update: Just got back from the treadmill.

Started on Week 3, and I think it was the right fit for me. I sweat and got my heartrate up during the jog times, so we'll see how the rest goes!! =)

I think it's a great program since it sets you up for what to expect!
30 minutes doesn't seem very long when it's split up into sections like that, otherwise I'd be like 30 minutes?!?!?
