Book recommendations

I listen to audio books while I work, and I am almost done with the one I have now... any suggestions for me?

My criteria is that it has to be relatively fast moving and not so deep that I can't miss parts now and then and still keep up with the story. The perfect books were the Alexander McCall Smith's Scotland and Lady Detective series, but I have blown through ALL of them!

I am listening to White Oleander right now - FABULOUS - there are parts of the prose that are like snippets of poetry. I also just finished the Time Traveler's Wife - that was a good one too.

What do you have for me?

Mary Higgins Clark and Carol Higgins Clark are a couple of my favorites! They are wonderful suspense writers. Mary Higgins Clark is nicknamed the Queen of Suspense!

Not sure what is available at your library (or source you get them from) but I've heard the JD Robb on tape are excellent! I've read most of them and they fit the criteria you're after. And a friend listens to them says the narrator has the sexiest Irish accent ever to listen too!

Ooo, that sounds nice! I have never listened to my girls on audio so I don't know how they sound but I could go for a sexy Irishman right now!

The narrator really makes a difference . Gary Sinese was the narrator on on e that I listened to - he was great.

Another great audio was "Brief Interviews with Hideous Men" by David Foster Wallace. It was absolutely fantastic. Each story had a different narrator, specific to the tone of the story. Must listen book.

I have a great library system here. All of the libraries in Southern WI are connected, and you can search through them all on-line, and order anything from any of them to be picked up at your local library. They have a great selection of audio book - both fiction and non-fiction.

We used to have something like that Jill. My local branch has a very limited selection but it used to be we could "order in" from other branches. Due to the cuts made in our latest state budget...um no more.

I am so glad to read this. I will be starting a new job and working mostly alone. I never thought of finding books on tape.

I (gasp) am not a big music fan, and so much talk radio is just stupid (even NPR gets old after a while) so audio books are my company of choice. I am catching up on so many I haven't had a chance to read. I also love being able to go back and relisten to parts I really love. (I think I listened to one of the DFW Hideous Men stories 5 times!!)

I love her too. I have read ALL of her books. My kids know if I have one of her books you better leave me alone.

have you read the one about the twins that get kidnapped I can not remember the title . Little girls in blue I think might be wrong.

Here's one for you, coming a bit out of left field but you never know, brilliant book (it was his first book) by D B C Pierre called Vernon God Little.

Kinda like a whodunnit but I'd be spoiling it if I said much more! Brilliant book.

frommylife, yes I have read all of her books too, I have even read her autobiography and her children's book. I love them all, I can't wait until her next one comes out.

Geisha design - thanks for the list! - I agree on the time factor. I used to travel a lot for work, and loved it because it gave me lots of reading time... but the audio books give me the story hit, without needing to stop everything!
