Another personal profile?

Does anyone keep up another personal profile where they have friends and family follow them and then their business profile as another twitter account?

Reason being ... my husband and I had this discussion last night (he's a professor and studies social media in one of his classes) and says that he just ignores all my tweets and retweets about my business -- not that he doesn't love my business ... but that there's alot of them and that it's not what he's on Twitter for. So he's probably NOT my target customer ;). I haven't checked, but I wonder if the few friends I have on Twitter has unfollowed me b/c of this ... so I was thinking about creating a personal profile just for me??

Re: Another personal profile?

Hi Gloria! Yes it best to have a separate twitter that is dedicated to building a following for your shop/business, where you can build a receptive environment for your product tweets.

Your shop twitter should be as closely branded to your esty shop as possible ie the make your username your shop name and you background images in keeping with the look of your shop.

I also include a note in my twitter bio that clearly states that I tweet listings form my shop along with quotes and sayings i find inspirational and that I retweet!

While having a shop twitter is not license to spam :) it should however alleviate any discomfort for tweeting your listings and others along with other great info.

Re: Another personal profile?

Thanks Clarissa! I think i am going to create a personal profile one, too -- that way my husband and the handful of friends I have following me can follow that one if they would rather.

Honestly, most of my friends are through FB -- and I have a separate page there, too so it makes sense to me to do that on Twitter, too. I rarely post items from my shop onto my personal FB page so not to deter people too much!!

Hi Gloria!

You just need a different email account to use for the new twitter.

when you're logged out of twitter you'll see the sign up option on the twitter homepage - twitter.com.

I use two different browsers so I don't have to keep logging in and out of my personal/writing and business/jewelry accounts. My personal account is logged in on Safari and my business account is logged in on Chrome.

Re: Another personal profile?

Thanks Gloria you have helped me make a decision.

I don't have twitter on my phone - I log in on through my pc usually once a day. I used to enjoy reading what people were up to, and tweeted or retweeted things I hoped my followers would be interested in reading.

Now my feed is filled with hundreds of automated tweets and retweets of listing promotions, to the extent that I rarely click on any of them. Looking at my own shop stats, real views from t.co are way down, so I guess my followers are feeling the same way.

So I've decided this is not for me. Over the next few weeks I will have a purge: I will only follow those who have something interesting to say. An occasional promotion is ok, just not 20 times a day :)
I don't mind if that means I lose followers - I'd rather only have those who are interested in what I have to say as well.

All the very best to you all, and I hope your Etsy shops do well.

Re: Another personal profile?

It good to keep in mind that your followers may not feel as you do.

Many people who follow thousands of people don't access their tweeter feeds directly. At the high volumes, feeds move too quickly. Instead people use apps like tweetdeck to follow hashtags and lists.

I only for 3500 people (compared to accounts that follow 5 figures) and my feed moves in a blur on tweetdeck! I just look at my mentions/connections. Occasionally something in my feed catches my eye.

It is very possible and likely that a great many of your followers are not a conscious of your every tweet as you might think.

My best advice don't coddle your twitter. Let is grow wild into a forest rather than a small well manicured garden.

Think in the thousands.

Being on the team will help you to grow a a big twitter following within an Etsy environment. Think in the thousands and

If you follow the comments made to the team and members of the team you will see that we have many fans and gain more and more each day.

Re: Another personal profile?

I have been under the weather the last few days so didn't check back on this conversation until now!

I have been thinking about my Twitter alot lately -- and really, I only created it for the purpose of my shop. SO -- I may not even create a personal account b/c there's not alot I would say :). I do most of my socializing on FB and Instagram anyway. I have been watching a couple of members closely on this team -- and it seems like they are selling quite a bit on Twitter b/c when I click on their item, sometimes it's already sold. I pretty much would love to be a part of that crowd :). And it seems like I gain new followers every day. If they were tired of my tweets, I would think they would unfollow me.

And that's a good point about the feed -- I hardly ever look at my newsfeed anymore ... I follow hashtags. I may create a new account though just so i can follow some other things and keep track of that better (news, weather, local stuff, etc).

Anyhoo -- really love this team :). haven't totally wanted to do auto tweeting yet or roundteam but I am almost there.

Gloria
