Anybody like to hunt moose?

Hi I just joined this team. I make double layered beanies and mittens in my shop. I like to put patterns of deer, elk, moose, rabbits, bears, and squirrels on them. I have never hunted myself but I admire people who do. It just makes sense because it's a part of the way of life. We're on the food chain too and in some places there aren't enough hunters to keep the deer populations down.

Does that make sense to you guys?

Re: Anybody like to hunt moose?

Hunting itself is not really for me. My father was a hunter and many of the other male members of my family, I liked fishing and hiking.

Re: Anybody like to hunt moose?

We live in NW Montana and hunting is a way of life for us. We depend on the meat from big game were lucky enough to get. We live on wild game year round, cut and wrap our own meat, make jerky and smoke sausage. It is a good way to live for sure.

Re: Anybody like to hunt moose?

My husband and I haven't purchased red meat in about two years. We tried eating a beef steak the other night and actually got sick! Not only is hunting part of our way of life but the game we eat is pure and good.

I grew up with my Dad hunting and my husband grew up hunting with his family. I didn't start hunting until a few years ago, and it's hard. I don't mean the physical strain and exhaustion... it's hard taking a life. But I'm so grateful for what the meat and hide does for our family.

Re: Anybody like to hunt moose?

I grew up hunting. Starting when I was 6 or 7 I was able to bring home some grouse for dinner. My parents raised my siblings and I on hunted meat – mostly moose but some caribou, salmon, halibut, whale and other game.

I would hope that even non-hunters and vegetarians realize that whatever they are eating or wearing was life. It is important to respect our food, be it plant or animal especially because for us to survive we require the giving up of life of something else.

kitschnstitchin is right about it being hard to take a life - but personally I think it is good to feel that guilt because it is important to respect the life that is taken, whether a hunter, rancher, farmer or somebody else takes the life, if we consume it, then it deserves our respect.

Some people may say not so nice things about synthetics - but consider the fact that even oil was life at some point in time.

A lot of people don't seem to realize, Kroger, Publix, Walmart, grocery stores in general, haven't been around since the beginning of time. Back in the day, you either grew it, killed it, stole it, or went hungry.

Re: Anybody like to hunt moose?

No, but I would like to, I have seen them up close and personal and they are a big animal. I just wonder what a backstrap steak cooked medium rare taste like, though I not sure on the dragging part of the hunt.

Re: Anybody like to hunt moose?

I grew up hunting and fishing! My husband and I continue to hunt and fish with our daughter. We are expanding our hunting to elk in Colorado. I love sharing my passion for the outdoors with others either instructing fly fishing or teaching someone the fundamentals of archery! It's awesome! I created my shop out of my obsession with camo and shoes! I never thought that I'd be able to use them together but I do and it's great to share it with others.
