My name is Heather and I really did want to open a Bistro Coffee House, I have run some coffee huts but it is not the same as walking up to a table pouring some wine and taking an order....I am grateful for Etsy and all the variety it offers. All recipes are created by me unless stated otherwise and all goodies are made by me too!

My name is Natalee. For the purposes of this group, I make homemade fudge! All of my fudge recipes have been passed to me from my family or recipes that I have created on my own. I also make soaps, other bath and beauty products and home decor products.

Re: Who are you and What's your story?

Hi all! I wear many hats when not on Etsy, one of them being a Russian cooking instructor and personal chef. I wish I could sell borscht or piroshky on Etsy, but I can't, so I've settled for the next best thing - homemade jams and preserves!

Re: Who are you and What's your story?

Timeless Photography Quote of the Day for Etsy Shop Owners & Their Photos!

"All I can do in my writing is to stimulate a certain amount of thought, clarify some technical facts and date my work. But when I preach sharpness, brilliancy, scale, etc., I am just mouthing words, because no words can really describe those terms and qualities it takes the actual print to say, 'here it is.'" - Ansel Adams

Over 100 years ago a streetcar in the city of San Francisco, Calfornia, a poster proclaimed in Chinese: "A picture is worth 10,000 words."

The interesting thing about the power of a photograph is it can convey these many words in just a few short seconds; yet, it would take some time to read 10,000 words and likely forget many of these words while reading all of these words.

A great many of us just take "snapshots" - we look for a second or two and then press the shutter release and we have a wonderful "snapshot" - yet, photography is much, much more than just "snapshots" - a good and a great photograph is actually a work of art.

EXAMPLE: Take making a photograph of a Sunset against the Pacific Ocean.

Likely, I will observe a great many sunsets by the Pacific Ocean and study them in my mind before I will bring out my camera. I will develope a concept of what I want to capture.

I will sketch a "story book" of the sun setting and when will I best take and yet make the photograph of the sunset. When I start photographing the sunset I may take 200 to 500 shots of it and then come back and study each and every one of them and then finally choose the very best.

TIP FOR ESTY SHOP PHOTOGRAPHERS:

When you want to make a great photograph of your product consider the above.

Start taking courses in photography on a regular basis. And, start thinking "photography" rather than just fast and easy "snapshots."

Said another way, please make every 1,000 to 10,000 words of your photo speak the precise words you want it to speak to you Etsy Shop Guest.

Please enjoy a really great photographic day!

Re: Who are you and What's your story?

Hi,

My name is Graham and I operate 'Entropy the Shop' along side Cherie Marcel. (She IS the driving force for the shop, I make edible products and offer kitsch items).
I am a chef who has recently left my career to raise our son at home and invest more time on my ferments and preserves (Cherie always made more money writing for medical journals).
Fermenting and preserving has been a long standing hobby of mine until the summer of last year (2012) when Cherie and I opened our shop here on Etsy.
I sell small batch vinegar and seasonal preserves and pickled items. I only use organic ingredients (unless impossible) and the majority of these ingredients are sourced locally here in the bay area of CA.
Since we have not been operating a for a full year we are still finding our groove. I love to be creative with my recipes and have not decided if I will stick to specific varieties of "flavors" or if I will let my will and the season guide me.
Any advice or comradery is welcome. I would like to get to know some of the other edible creators here and share our stories and experience.

Here is a post I wrote on a delicious shop here on Etsy if you care to read.

Thanks- Graham

Re: Who are you and What's your story?

Hey!

I am Sara! I opened my shop fall of 2012, havent had a lot of opportunity to fine tune it! So like all the shops, its always a work in progress! New items yet to come of course! I am most well known for my cookies. I had a goal to win the overal best in class ribbon at the Clay County Fair (spencer, iowa) the worlds greatest county fair. Its big, a good amount of competition! :) I succeeded! :) Most of those cookies are listed in my shop!. Do you realize how many people believe they have the best chocolate chip cookie? Well, that was my biggest accomplishment placing first. Almost better than winning the overall best in class for cookies. Its all been very wonderful, and I want to be able to share my cookies with the nation! :)

Thanks everyone! :)

Re: Who are you and What's your story?

Hi. My name is Tanisha and I make homemade cheesecakes. Regular and mini cheesecake cupcakes, mostly in specialty flavors that are absolutley amazing. I also work full-time as a purchasing manager for a packaging company so all my shipping supplies for the cakes are actually custom made! YAY!

I live in Rockwell NC (suburb of Charlotte) and have an FDA approved bakery that was recently built by my boyfriend. He is sucha sweetheart and really went out of his way to support me in my business (it was actually his idea to help me one day work for myself full-time). I'm doing good with local retail sales and even some wholesale restaurant orders but I've not sold anything on Etsy. What am I doing wrong? All my friends say Etsy is the way to go. Please help! I appreciate all the feedback! Thanks.

Re: Who are you and What's your story?

Hi, I'm Julie! About a year ago I decided traditional 9-5 employment wasn't an effective, fulfilling, or enjoyable way to live and earn a living so I chose to go the true American way and open a small business, now I have three. I have my knitting shop, botanicals shop and I'm a professional dog walker and I must say now my life is 90% stress free! I loved to do all three of these things and decided to make them businesses so I could do what I love. Currently I'm experimenting make herbal tea blends(traditional tea leaf blends soon to come) and wreaths from magnolia leaves for fall and Christmas!

Re: Who are you and What's your story?

Hey yall! My name is Annie and I have a long history with food. I've been gardening since I was a kid, I got an Anthropology degree with a focus in sustainable agriculture, I was a landscape designer specializing in edibles and organics, I ran a mini-farm and now I make eco friendly housewares (with designs often inspired by things on my farmlett). I love to cook and eat (always have!). I cook everything from scratch, which takes a lot of time but we really think it's important. I'm thinking about introducing a few food items into my shop as limited time offerings. Particularly some tea blends to compliment my refurbished tea cups. I'm looking forward to interacting with everyone in this group!

p.s. If you're interested, I have a blog where I write about what's growing and cooking around here. www.PollinatorsOnTheBrain.blogspot.com

Re: Who are you and What's your story?

Hi everyone! My name is Stephanie and I am the owner of Whiskey River BBQ & Catering. I have an affection for smoked boozy food, an insatiable fetish for cast iron and antique kitchen-ware, and am a regular patron of farmers markets everywhere. I grew up on a farm in "Almost Heaven West Virginia" where my grandmother introduced me to the magical world of slow smoke cooking on her gynormous cast iron stove. Mason jars filled with sweet jams and jellies, smells of homemade baked pies and breads, and fresh fried chicken were daily celebrations of life where I come from.

Here is one of my favorite "Sweet Heat Treats" that you will find me creating in my kitchen on any given day.

Hope you enjoy stopping by my shop.
