Re: Converting Twitter followers to customers

Just had a quick look and I have to disagree with some of the things stated.

Call to action and create an urgency to buy may drive away potential customers rather than attract them. Speaking from experience I tried these techniques a few years ago and lost quite a few followers.

Art/craft items I think need a more subtle approach, get to know your customers, tell them about you and build up trust and respect.

Re: Converting Twitter followers to customers

For what most of us sell on Etsy, the "call to arms" approach can definitely backfire.

For the most part, the article does have some interesting points, and I think which ones you want to try really depend on what your personal business approach is. I know some dealers who really push their items and actually sell well...others try the same thing and get quickly ignored.

Those who ARE successful at the hard-sell approach do tailor their appearance and customer approach to those who are looking for special items that are "of the moment".

For example, dealers who are willing to do rush orders for Valentines gifts or offer super-fast shipping for "I need to fast" items usually have a market different than the more subtle follower.

You definitely bring up some good points!

Re: Converting Twitter followers to customers

I just went to www.hashtags.org to check on a few Etsy-related hashtags used over the past 24 hours. Here's some info you might find interesting...

1. #etsy is very popular, but it was tweeted the most at 7am? I LOVE that it's so popular, but that seems like an oddball time to interact with your customers, doesn't it?
2. #etsyshop is much less popular, but still used. But it peaked at 3am. Who's gonna see it at that time?

I think BOTH of these hashtags are useful to build a Twitter following. But I think it might be helpful to spread them out over the day, or concentrate on evening hours, rather than too early in the morning.

Any thoughts?

Re: Converting Twitter followers to customers

A good tip: Copy and paste a bunch of hashtags that you use on a regular. That way your customers can find you faster and also will come up on your feed.
