Challenge for June

Got SCRAPS?

Anyone interested in creative use of scrap wood for a challenge?

Because I use a scroll saw, my uses can be quite small, but lots of you will have ideas for using larger scraps.

And I'm thinking we should rule out a fire for roasting marshmallows..........

Re: Challenge for June

I get some pretty nice scraps of maple burl, curly and quilted maple and assorted other woods. I'd be glad to give some away for the cost of shipping.
Just a thought.

Re: Challenge for June

This is a great idea, as all our products are made from scrap wood ;)

We recently made a lamp from all the scrap pieces of plywood, I'll post the link when we add it to our store!

Re: Challenge for June

Many of the products in my shop were originally made using wood in my cut off and scrap bins from furniture projects. The cutting boards were first, then as the pieces got smaller I started making spatulas and salad tongs. Last were the cheese spreaders that were made from scraps from making the salad tongs.
The scrap bins ran out before the sales did so now I have to use "good" wood to keep items in stock.
As soon a I find a good use for the sawdust, I'll probably be able to stop loading the garbage can too!

Re: Challenge for June

a while back I acquired a bunch of 1/4" aromatic cedar scraps. I made what I like to call a "Woven Cedar Box"

Re: Challenge for June

I really like the woven box! Great!

I finally got my scrap wood project listed.
It was tough to be inspired by Christmas decor in June. I made this using my adaptations of patterns in the Holiday Ornaments book from The Berry Basket Collection.

We have enough scrap wood for about 100 more sets!

Re: Challenge for June

Nice stuff guys.
I used 1/8" thick scraps of redwood I had leftover from surfacing some redwood 2Xs to make this tray for my wife. Also made some small shelves for tea boxes that I haven't listed yet.

Re: Challenge for June

My husband makes his keepsake boxes from strips of poplar. The tops are glued together out of 1.5" wide scraps, planed, and sanded. These are really very pretty, because the wood takes on it's own colors, especially when sanded. Check out our other boxes as well.

Re: Challenge for June

Stain and clear polyurethane create their own colors as well. It all depends on how the wood takes the finish.
