You can now change the order of products on your linesheet

We have added a position to the product edit and create screen. Lower positions will appear earlier when buyers view your linesheet. Edit any product and you will see the new field towards the bottom of the edit screen.

By default all products sort in creation date order. If you set a position on some products those products will sort first, then all of the products that you didn't set a position on will come afterwards. If you set the same position on two products they will sort in their creation date order. If you edit a product and remove the position field (leave it blank) your product will go back to the creation sort order section of your linesheet, after all of the products with explicit positions.

This does not effect which products appear in search results. Those products are still the most relevant products for the search.

I am not sure that this option is very helpful as is. When I move certain products to the top of the line sheet I expected them to also be updated as top line items within my sections, that is not happening.

Question:
With this new change, when we import new listings from our regular etsy shops will they now be found at the top of our line sheets? I know this is important to a lot of sellers, as we are creating a lot of new fall products and want them at the top automatically when we import them...

Thanks Spike! Upon first look, I notice that with a lot of items it might be difficult to know what number each item is unless i am in "edit item." Would it be possible to have the number of each item included on the "Your Linesheet" where we manage the line sheet? Thanks again.

I haven't tried this out yet - but have used a similar feature on another site and it worked out brilliantly.

What I typically do is lay out all the images at once in a photo editing program - then choose the order - then go in and edit all items at once.

This saves on time and that way you don't need to remember the sort order. It can be challenging for adding new product as it requires a lot of editing, but it's definitely a step in the right direction and I'm excited about it :)

One workaround I can think of - if you often add new products - start your numbers at 200 (as your smallest number - then work up from there). That will allow you to add new items a bit more easily if you'd like them to be first.

A new item would be 199 if you chose this way of doing it.

Not sure how to insert an item into an existing group of numbered items. One item I am trying to insert won't fall into place. Can I insert a new "10," for instance? Or do I have to go in and re-number everything after 10 to get everything to fall back into place?

This feature is very helpful- but I wonder if it would be more helpful if it was set up like the shipping profile section in our regular Etsy shops-- with drop-down menus.
