Scam

I received a message from a prospective buyer today asking for a discounted quote on several unspecified items. When I asked for a list of the items I received the email below:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I  can't upload the document here in chat, and i wont talk outside etsy chat because it's against etsy rules, we are not allowed to communicate outside of this chat about any deals.
So i dont want to get in trouble because of this.

I'll just upload the document through some hosting service, yip.su/2AE3n5.rar

It's a win rar archive, so you must have it instaled. Password is : 111

In any case it wont work try to open it on desktop or make it "Run as Administrator" so you can check the full list of items.

Once you have more information about quantity and price you can offer me, let me know.

You are free to open it from any device, if you have any doubts about it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now this may be all above board and someone may want to buy 50 of my items in one order. I tend to subscribe to the view that 'if its looks too good to be true it probably is'.

  1. RAR files aren't dangerous as such but are widely used to transmit malware.
  2. The .su top level domain stands for Soviet Union. It is now replaced by .ru and has, apparently become the home of cyber-crime

I tried to find somewhere in Etsy to report this to (though it should have been filtered out long before it reached the inbox of a 'valued' seller IMHO). Still looking...

Translate to English There was a problem fetching the translation.
