would love some suggestions on my 'custom' listing

Ok, so I just added this listing in hopes of making it clear to shoppers that I take custom orders, specifically for wedding favor boxes.

The listing itself is not 'for sale', or at least I don't want people to buy it, but Etsy does not currently allow a listing that does not have a specific price.

So please critique and let me know - is it clear what I am trying to do? Do you think the $100 price is high enough to keep people from buying it and assuming I am going to meet their needs for $100? (Wedding favor boxes, on the high end, could cost quite a bit more than that)

I read in one of the forums another suggestion that I think would work: listing this item at a lower price as a DEPOSIT on a custom order. Which do you think is better?

Feedback and suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

Emily

ooh! I haven't heard of the deposit idea- I love that! I see a lot of listings like this and people put them at $10000+ <- that's definitely pretty clear too! haha
Your description sounds clear to ME....I would put something in the title as well. Wont be great for SEO, but it may make it more clear, and written one extra time for someone to potentially see and understand lol.

Thanks for the feedback, Ariana!! So, maybe I'll just go with the deposit idea because that will be easy to clearly put in the title. So maybe "Deposit for customized wedding favor box, wedding gift box...." Think that will work?

You might want to upload your photo to picmonkey which will enable you to write right across the photo "sample" or "deposit only" or some other words that might make it really clear.
I use the writing tool for special order listings

any other suggestions? :)

Re: would love some suggestions on my 'custom' listing

You aren't allowed to create a deposit listing, so what you really should do is create a sample with an accurate price. You can let buyers know that there are other options (with different costs), but the price in the listing has to be an accurate price -- and the item has to be for sale.

Unfortunately Etsy isn't the easiest place to offer custom items -- but there are lots of workarounds that can work pretty well :) You can see an example of one of my custom listings here:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/63077887/custom-copper-map-of-your-state-6-in?
It shows an example, and has set size & price. And just having this example will encourage people to contact me if they want a larger/ different item.

Hope that helps!!
