when do your views translate to sales

I have been working on promoting my shop and it seems to be working. I am using stumbleupon, facebook, craigslist, and pinterest. I just started stumbleupon and pinterest yesterday and my views have gone from 20-40 a day to 75 yesterday and today so far 130ish. The thing is, these sights don't seem like they ar bringing in people who are shopping but more just looking around. That is fine but I am wondering what social marketing tools worked best for you all to bring in actual customers not just views

You never know which view is going to be a sale. . .

Re: when do your views translate to sales

I've been wondering the same thing, but I learned early when the first item I listed got its first view and sold. :)

Re: when do your views translate to sales

Strangely enough, low view days are the days I have sales.

Re: when do your views translate to sales

Agree... agree.... and agree.... Sometimes I get loads of views but the sales are just... eekkk. Other times the views are cut in halve, but the sales doubled. I honestly think there is nothing scientific about all this things. Social marketing is next on my list. That's what I said a month ago. I twit and that seems to bring in views. And views = views and may not necessarily = to sales.

Rarely if ever, but I still enjoy Etsy and thank goodness my sales outside of Etsy keep me solvent.

Re: when do your views translate to sales

Hello All,
We average a very low to Sale ratio, most of our items sell at 10 to 20 views, and our shop only has maybe 10 views a day - yet we still manage to sell a item every week or so and we only really started selling in October. I don't know what the magic bullet is, but I think finding people who are specifically interested in your products is key. We use circles to add people who are specifically and recently interested in our product - crystals- to add them they see our avatar & shop name and get curious about who this is who has added me to their circle and check out out shop. As I said not a magic bullet, and we do have very low views but they are the views that seem to count :)

Re: when do your views translate to sales

Marketing everywhere on the block can help a bit, but are you reaching your target market? Have you defined who your target market is?

I've found that broadcast marketing (pinterest, etc) really doesn't help much with sales but it does raise the view count.

What I have found that helps with sales is to be active where your buyers are most likely to find you.

Since I'm also an auto enthusiast, I spend a fair bit of time on a number of auto related forums, and sign each post with my name and shop title (or variation thereof). Many of the guys have come from those forums and purchased for their wives/girlfriends/SO because they've gotten to know me on that forum. I'm not marketing but its the constant presence that keeps reminding them of the shop.

Same thing with my supplies. I 'hang out' on a number of fiber related boards and again use the same principles.

Outside of targeted marketing I make sure that my titles and tags reflect what is being sold and are 'buyer friendly', ie they contain terms that a buyer would be searching for.

The best social marketing sites I've found for sales are Facebook and twitter. I'm always getting people there referring people to my shop.

Re: when do your views translate to sales

I had a sale today from facebook. I tested sumbleupon today. Every time I put anything up it has 10-20 view within seconds of posting it, then nothing esle all day. When I look back at the post though it says that it has not been viewed on sumbleupon. I don't know exactly how it works but I don't think that that many people are rally seeing it within seconds and then nothing more. I have had views from pinterst but when I look at what they are repinning my pictures in it is mostly in catagories like 'things I want to paint', 'neat pictures' or 'pretty flowers. I don't think it is bringing people looking ot buy.
