what's the feeling of my page?

Hello team members, let me ask you for a favor.

Few weeks ago I requested a shop critique, and basically they told me that i had to change my backgrounds to something less distraction.
I have been working on my pictures (with my dear husband) and made some mayor changes... changes so big that scare me a little bit.

Fist all my pics had white backgrounds, but some of my white tiaras did not "pop out" against it. Then I changed them to a black background, but i felt that my shop was too "heavy" on the eye. Now we came up with a checkers design, (my shop stills under construction) and i would love some feedback of how it looks, what the feeling is. Do you want to stay and look around, or you want to leave immediately?

Thanks everybody in advance for taking the time to give me some value advice.

Warmly,
America, Phaness Shop

Re: what's the feeling of my page?

Hi,

I can understand your dilemma - you want to show each piece in its best but you can't do that and have a consistent background theme. The best suggestion I have seen to overcome this is to use some layering to help you achieve both objectives. This is the best blog post I have seen on the subject - http://sparrowsalvage.blogspot.com/2011/08/back-stage-with-sparrow-or-how-to-get_15.html

Dear Charlene
Thank you for the advice, I just marked the article, it seems very interesting. I hope i can use some of this ideas in my shop. Have you implemented any of them?

Re: what's the feeling of my page?

Though I don't dislike the checkerboard pattern, it seems like a lot of work to upkeep! What if you shot those items with a soft grey background? It's still neutral and elegant, but might show your beautiful pearls more than stark white, without the stark contrast of the black.

Dear Poisonpear,

why I did not occur to me? it really is a lot of work, but the rearrange button helps to keep it in order. So far i had thee sales since the change and i just realigned my pics to keep the b/w design. I'll give it a try. Honestly, my sales are really slow and I am head over heels trying to make my page more appealing.

The black certainly makes your items pop, but if you're concerned, maybe you could use a gray background, or a natural looking background, like a printed book page, bamboo, or perhaps throw in a red ribbon or something complimentary to the product help them pop on the white background.

Re: what's the feeling of my page?

I see some people have made suggestions to use a soft grey background, and I think that's a good idea. Your items are really beautiful, I think the grey would help show them off. But I personally like the black and white too. There's something about the black background that I find really appealing. That's my opinion.

I like your pictures. I don't think the black is too dark. Especially when viewing the gallery in "custom" you alternate between the white and black which helps to keep either from getting overwhelming. Looking at the items individually, I liked the ones with the flowers in the background, but found that this one kinda hurt my eyes and made it a bit harder to see the details of the image.

This could just be me, and the fact that it's kinda late, but I found it harder to see the details on this piece.

Re: what's the feeling of my page?

Phaness,

I think the black and white works fine. I don't even mind the flowers that much because they do seem to go with your jewelry.

The ones that seemed to busy were where the earrings were too close to the flowers. When the earrings were further away you had a nice soft but still recognisable background. This allowed me to focus on the jewelry. You have some good close up shots of the details, I really liked that. I did not see the shop before but I hope the changes work for you : )

Re: what's the feeling of my page?

I really enjoy the tips suggesting adding gray tones or something simple like a bamboo background. The black and white checkered design must have taken some effort to do so I'm sorry for saying this but... I think the colors take away from your product too much. The shop should have a few listings with main photos of the product taken much closer up to display a sense of romanticism.

Best of luck!
