$ vs.€ pricing confusion

Hi there.

i just had the glorious idea to check what my prices look like in $ and saw that they are all real odd and not very sexy. When I price in € I make sure its even numbers like 19€ for 5pieces, but looking at them in $ they come up as 26.64 for5. UGLY!
I was thinking of changing them all so the $ numbers look a bit rounder....but this is all just confusing me.
26 for 5 looks like such a huge number to me and I feel pressured to lower....but then again, I have no relation to the $ and it's worth. My life in in Europe and I know what a Euro is worth in everyday life.... I am simply scared to get carried away if I swap my currency and then in the end undersell my work and materials.

Is there maybe a tool from shmetsy or similar that could make BOTH prices appear on my items?
Or how do other NON-American sellers handle things?

X from France,
Nic*

Re: $ vs.€ pricing confusion

Hi Nic :) We list our items in Australian $, not US$, it's our preference as it makes the book work a LOT easier at the end of each month :D
When you look at a listing if you have it in another currency it should have your preference as the bolded number, then have the customers preferred currency under it. For your listings, it comes up as Euro in bold, then AUD under it so I know how much I'm paying :)

Re: $ vs.€ pricing confusion

I think it's not a problem if the price looks strange in dollars, since they'll see that it was a nice round number in euros. Obviously, with the exchange rate changing all the time, there would be no way of keeping them all looking "nice", unless you spent several hours each day editing every listing!!

Don't feel pressured into lowering your prices - the chances are that the person buying the item knows the true value too, so won't mind paying the price you feel is appropriate.

Best wishes,

Bea

Re: $ vs.€ pricing confusion

Hi Nic!

I have bought from both Australia and Europe where the shops price their items in their corresponding currencies, and it doesn't bother me a bit if the price looks "ugly".

I also completely understand that you are pricing your work as you see fit and I know that the exchange rates between currencies are sometimes higher for is folks in the US. I keep that in mind when I'm shopping.

I wouldn't want you to lose profit because it looks "ugly" that's not fair to you. You put your valuable time and effort into making your pieces :) you should price them accordingly, no matter how it looks!

Hope this helps!

Re: $ vs.€ pricing confusion

@beaKez: Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking ....meaning the amount of time that I would have to spend checking. It would be a nightmare.

@Kellyand Adam: I don't seem to have this double price function. Well at least not when I am logged in. If I want to check US prices I have to log out first, then find my shop and THEN I see € AND $. It is a bit annoying. And I agree with you: book keeping has to be done in the local currency otherwise I am heading straight into the mess.

Re: $ vs.€ pricing confusion

Thank you Rachel. And I agree.... I do the same when buying abroad. But that is us being sellers as well as buyers.
I wonder if regular folks feel irritated :S
