Participating in related twitter parties has gotten me many involved followers.

There are some for everything, just find your niche. I sell seeds here and participate in #seedchat and #gardenchat and have had a great time and gained many faithful followers who have turned into customers. I also have a natural living blog that ties in with the business and have participated in breastfeeding (#bfcafe) and attachment parenting twitter chats as well that fit in with the whole package :)

Search on twitter for words related to your niche Like "artist's books or Canadian Handmade" And you'll start finding your crowd.

I find its way easier to follow people/shops who do more than promote items and treasuries. It gives people more to respond to.

The reason you cannot follow more people is that you don't have enough people following you yet. You've only got 1,400 followers right now.

If you want to break the 2,000 barrier, you will need to have close to 2,000 followers.

I've been tweeting since before I had my shop. I always found that using #hashtags has helped. Follow people who's interests you share. If someone you follow posts something, make a comment on it.

Following this thread with interest! I must admit I'm a little intimidated by Twitter. I've started, but I"m just learning. For instance, if you put a # in front of your word, does that mean people who search that word will find your tweet?
