tagging item titles for fine art

Hello
I posted this original question to Danielle and she suggested I post it here for more help from the etsy community.

Here's my questions and her answer. I look forward to working with this group.
Thanks Kelly

I'm struggling with the fact that I find it more compelling to have the title of an art work be the title for a listing, such as "I love your Voice" or "The day before we met"

However, you have me thinking I should change my titles to
ooak collage handmade paper violin
or
fine art etching collage

what do you think?

I think art is a bit tricky cuz the title can elevate a piece--I'm on the fence here

Thanks
Kelly

here's Daniel's answer to me:
Tagging and titles and description are really specific, not only to category (fine art) but to style, target market, etc. It's more of a game of sorts - that you have to figure out. What keywords can you use to reach your specific community? That sort of game :) So I think even if I did have a tagging for fine artist guide - it really wouldn't be too helpful, since everyones work/themes/mediums/styles are so varied. You know what I mean?

I would try to make your titles less of keywords strung together? Maybe something like Etched Paper Violin Collage (and maybe even through in a style keyword at the beginning? Try it out and see how your views change!

Re: tagging item titles for fine art

I am not an artist but I do have a point that might help.
This is one of my favourite artists on etsy
http://www.etsy.com/shop/shirae
She has had over 1000 sales, been on the front page and has regular customers. I am saving to one day have a collection of her work on my wall.
AND her item titles are very simple. Not any mish mash of words, just the title and the word Art Print. So I think you can be a success and keep your titles.

My other favourite artist
http://www.etsy.com/shop/TheNebulousKingdom?ga_search_query=thenebulouskingdom&ga_search_type=seller...
has even more sales and also uses titles, although hers a less vague. I found her for a treasury I made on Red Riding Hood because she has Red Riding Hood clearly in the title. Make of that what you will.

Re: tagging item titles for fine art

I am not sure that the usual GA optimization rules are as helpful for fine artists as for other sellers. I'm a photographer and although I do try to include the subject matter and medium in the title I don't know that it is a great help in searches.
If someone googles flower fine art photograph there are going to be 1000s of items. Im not sure that is how people find fine art.
