running two etsy shops?

Was wondering if anyone is running more than one etsy shop?

Is it confusing? Do you have to sign out of one to check the other? Do you need an extra email account?

Any advice?

Thank you

I don't have any answers but have been wondering this myself.

Re: running two etsy shops?

We have two. I like to have things in some type of order and we are only allowed 10 sections per shop. So I have one for books, original art and ephemera and one more focused on home decor houseware items.
We are going to open a third store to focus on re purposed items, oddball or with a more industrial feel.
Plus I don't know if it is true or not, but I have to wonder if a buyer only goes through about 1/3 of your store before loosing interest or lack of time.

Re: running two etsy shops?

We have two shops. one for physical prints and one for digital downloads. You do need two email accounts. I think it can be a two-edged sword, because having another shop might allow you to spread your listings out so that the amount of listings in one shop doesn't seem overwhelming, but you also end up starting over with your shop relevancy. I don't know if this is still true, but it used to be true that the more listings you had the more you show up in searches and categories, because it shows a greater investment and legitimacy to Etsy. That may not still be true. Our second shop is a lot smaller and we don't spend a lot of time promoting it, but have still gotten a handful of sales from it, so it may be worth it eventually.

Re: running two etsy shops?

Perhaps vintage sales are such a different thing than handcrafted items that we end up doing the old apples to oranges thing.
After all I rarely have two items alike. You than run "created" stores have to have items so very different to justify having a whole different store.
Hadn't thought of that before.

So perhaps that answers the question.
Would you have enough, continually, to make a statement so you needed a whole different store.?

Re: running two etsy shops?

I am now in process of opening a shop for my son's handmade items. I am definitely using a separate e-mail address and PayPal account for him. As for sign in and out, if you are running your store on personal commuter, you can simply use two different web browsers. Use Chrome for one and Firefox for the second. If you are using Etsy apps you might be able to add a second shop. I found this threat here, but its not very clear. https://www.etsy.com/ca/teams/7720/bugs/discuss/15558560/

Re: running two etsy shops?

Thank you for the info. I was under the impression that Etsy rules state that if you have a second shop, you have to mention it in your other shop...I could be wrong...does any one know if this is true?

Re: running two etsy shops?

You need a separate email address, but you can use the same PayPal account. You have to log out from one to get to the other, unless you want to have two browsers open. I tend to do work on one shop at a time - it's far less confusing that way.

Yes, you need to disclose each account you have access to, including any team account you may be able to log in to as a captain or member.

Re: running two etsy shops?

Thank you Erin. This may seem like a silly question, but will I hear the "Cha-Ching" if I get a sale from one shop, if I am working on the other shop? Do both browers need to be open to hear it?

(Your shops are lovely BTW...beautiful banners...did you make them?)

Re: running two etsy shops?

Yes, I made my banners. :) And thank you.

I don't know about the cha-ching. I just downloaded the Sell on Etsy app this afternoon. LOL!

Re: running two etsy shops?

I have two shops...one for my jewelry and the other for jewelry supplies that are taking over my closet. It is time consuming for both, but I am retire so I have the time. Yes, two logins and you can only work on one at at time. I only have one shop set up to cha-ching so I don't hear it all day long (which is a good thing but not at the supper table).

I used to have a section for supplies in my jewelry shop, but it got lost amongst the jewelry listings. I also needed that section. It is much better separate. I believe there are sellers on Etsy with many shops. You have to be careful and not have duplicate items in the shops in order to game the system for getting found. Etsy closes down duplicate shops.

Re: running two etsy shops?

I have two Etsy Shops…

You do have to sign in & out of both shops… I also have different emails for both…You might try one email & use different passwords for each?

It isn’t hard to have two Etsy Shops if you’ve got the time to devote to each one… Patrice
