re-listing realities

Do you re-list your items even if they have not sold? Is it worth re-listing something just so you have more items in your shop?

Re: re-listing realities

I don't relist just to get views but my items are mostly cheap so doesn't make sense.

My advice is always List New Items rather than re-listing unsold items. I do relist once they expire.

Re: re-listing realities

I've always wondered that myself. I haven't re-listed my items. I am making other items, and I don't think is it necessary to re-list to have more items in my shop, since I'm going to be adding items.

Re: re-listing realities

I've sold many relisted items. Some items sat in my shop for 9 months before selling. For me, the 20 or 40 cents to keep relisting is worth it to make $50 at a later date.

Re: re-listing realities

Why would you remove an item that hasn't sold, if you can have it in your shop for another 4 months for just 20 cents?
Unless your items have a use before date, that makes no sense.
Don't expect every item you list to sell within 4 months. Or to sell at all. Listing an item does not guarantee it will (ever) sell.
The only time I would not renew an unsold item is when the item is very cheap and the 20 cents renewal fees are eating away your profit margin.

I have sold items in the past that sat in my shop for over two years first.
You never know when that special person comes along that wants to buy it.
I have items in my shop that have been listed for over three years. Some of them still draw in a lot of potential buyers to my shop. That is why I keep them listed.

Re: re-listing realities

Absolutely re-list, the more items in your shop the better.

You never know when an item is going to sell, the 20c fee is a tiny amount and some items might in fact never sell but they are fab gateway items that draw customers into your shop for them to purchase other things.

As long as the quality of the item is high and it still fits with my product range I always re-list.

Re: re-listing realities

I try to list things everyday to keep my shop active so when I don't have anything new to add, I tend to renew what has expired recently. I rarely renew something before it expires though.

This is my take too.

Re: re-listing realities

I saw a post on a shop's FB page that said she renews her most popular items every single day just to stay in the browse category. I personally think it's silly because she's going to eventually eat into her profits.

That being said, this shop is too new to worry about relisting expired items just yet. I have relisted in my jewelry shop. I figure if after three rounds of relisting an item (1 year) it might be time to throw in the towel on that one.

Re: re-listing realities

I usually relist items when they expire, but I have a bunch that I think I'm going to take down when their time is up. Some of my bracelets and necklaces have been in my shop for over a year, and it's just not worth it to keep them around!

Re: re-listing realities

Your profit margins have to be huge (or your common sense clouded) if you are going to renew items on a daily base.
Instead of 20 cents for 4 months, that will cost you 20 cents per day (around $24.50 per 4 months). Per item!

Re: re-listing realities

With Relevancy search and Browse Pages depending on keywords among other factors, it is really not worth relisting unsold and unexpired items anymore.

Your listings can be seen more on Etsy if or when they have many hearts (favorites) and are included in many treasuries. MOST of the listings in the first few pages of both Relevancy and Browse are listings like this as well as listings from high sellers.

Better to spend time working on "hearts" and treasuries than spending money on renewing.

Re: re-listing realities

I relist all of my items except for some that were limited edition or I myself, no longer enjoy looking at. I don't think that getting rid of an item because it did not sell the first time around is wise. The more variety you have the more chance you have to appeal to someones interest. I do not relist items before their expiration date, however, on rare occasions I have if I do not have anything new to list or if I have dramatically changed something.

Re: re-listing realities

This was a very helpful thread! I figured 20 cents was not much, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to renew a few times. I think I do, after reading the comments.

I also see that I want to work more on hearts and treasuries. I think I do OK with that, but I could do more.

Re: re-listing realities

The only things I don relist or renew are ones I am tired of making or like Jennifer said, tired of looking at. There is nothing wrong with them so I donate to a local charity. Hats are always appreciated in the cold winter months of Northern Indiana.

I think in the case I mentioned earlier, it's clouded common sense. Her items are in the $20-$25 range. She bragged on FB about how she renews every day to keep her items in browse and now she has several of her followers drinking the same Koolaid. That's when I hit the 'unlike' button. lol
