random tip for knitters

Dear people who make things out of yarn: please list your materials. And by "materials" I don't mean "yarn" - I can see that pretty clearly. I mean cotton, acrylic, wool, goat's hair, your hair, I don't care just have it someplace, preferably in the description but the material tags are a nice place as well.

I also wish Etsy's categories would make sense, since I don't care if it's knit or crochet, I just want a scarf. But that's an issue for them I guess.

sincerely, someone who's shopping today

Re: random tip for knitters

You are right, I started to do it recently. And I also use the "material" tags to include techniques: lace knitting, crochet, etc.

Thanks for the tip, I will go through my oldest listings to check them.

Re: random tip for knitters

I have started to list the brand name of the yarn I use for a particular product. But I guess I should start saying if it is acrylic or what.

Interesting, I didn't know people really looked at that. I assumed that if you charged a lot you'd be using a special yarn (like alpaca) and say so.

It definitely makes sense to elaborate on the materials used! I'm not sure why people don't mention that... it's a little strange. In my case, I can't stand acrylics and will always pay more for real materials like wool or organic cotton.

My dad, for instance, is very allergic to acrylic. Yes please, to listing fibers.

And there is a difference between knit and crochet, and I know what the difference is. Do not tag one with the other - that only makes me angry and clogs up the search.

Re: random tip for knitters

I agree - do both, and I always list them separately. I have a knit cross your heart scarf and a crocheted cross your heart scarf - same concept, different scarves.

Re: random tip for knitters

I add crochet as a tag for my knit scarves. Is it really all that different? They may see it and want it, even if it's not crochet.
