paying double for shipping?

I signed up for Etsy to give the Etsy payments a shot since I primarily used PayPal - however, I noticed something strange. At least I think so, and wondered if anyone else did?

When I sell an item and use Etsy Payments to ship, I already take a deduction on the total purchase amount.

So say an order sold for $12.00, and shipping is $2.61. I pay for shipping through Etsy Payments, which means my deposit amount is deduced.

Yet Etsy Payments states that the shipping amount will also be added to my Etsy BILL. If I already paid for shipping once, why is that total added to my bill used for transactions, listing renewals, etc.? Keeping in mind Etsy does not offer a general shipping fee/percentage/etc. only a description that the shipping depends on the weight, dimensions of the package - which I assume is whatever amount I charge (2.61).

Has anyone using Etsy payments noticed that they pay for shipping once and then it shows up to paid for again on the bill? Am I missing something?

Re: paying double for shipping?

If you have your shop set up correctly, your entries on your payment account* should be $12.00 + 2.61=14.61. Then you will see a collection fee deducted from the 14.61. Then you purchase shipping for $2.61, which will be taken off your account at the end of the month in a lump sum for all your shipping labels during the month.

Hope this helps.

Re: paying double for shipping?

When I use Etsy shipping it is always added to my Etsy Bill. It does not matter what I charge the buyer for shipping, Etsy charges me the exact amount needed to ship that item to that address after it is packaged.
And as Bev said, check the entries on your payment account to confirm this.
