Re: need help pricing your work?

I've only got one question for you before I consider signing up for you seminar.

In your marketing you state
""I’ll teach you how to know what your art is worth and what to do if you make something that takes 50 or 100 hours (you can’t charge $1000 for a sweater!).""

Why can't you charge $1000 for a sweater? If your target customer is paying that price, I don't see any reason for not charging it.

CG, I was thinking the same thing. If a sweater is worth $1,000, then why not price it appropriately?

I watch QVC & HSN for amusement sometimes, and I can't believe the number of shoppers who pay $250 (sometimes more) for a handbag or some other thing that they don't "need." That stuff is mass produced ... somewhere ... and if it is worth that much, then why aren't my handmade dolls ... or your sweaters? It's all about knowing who your target market is and where to find those shoppers!

And if you don't believe one can charge $2000 for a sweater, pick up a copy of Vogue. The only difference between that and here is that you're buying a world famous designer's product.

Re: need help pricing your work?

Hey CG - I'm fine with that, but most people aren't comfortable with $1000 sweaters, makers or consumers. So it's a good hook in the marketing because people really identify with that. They say "I would never charge $1k for a sweater!" and they say "I would never buy a $1k sweater!"

But yes, occasionally someone will sell a sweater for $1000 (especially in the couture world) and people will buy it when they're in that world and that income bracket.

The people attending my webinar and drawn to me are totally not anywhere near that world. And without checking out your shops, I'm betting none of you are either because Etsy doesn't typically garner that type of seller/buyer. Though there are a few exceptions.

Hope to see some of you there if it's interesting to you or you think it would help!
