I need a hug and some reassurance, i have had a few custom quilt order recently and all have had raving reviews ( facebook) today i was contacted by a lady who wanted a quilt to be made using designer Tilda fabrics. I spoke to her about the design which was pretty simple and quoted her a price (£350) for a full double bed quilt. She told me she could not afford this. So politely I asked her how much her budget was and she said £60-80 i almost fell off my chair. Her fabrics alone were costing around £100!
This is really playing on my mind I am still in shock, how can a person think that a quilt will cost so little? you cannot even get a factroy quilt churned out by the hundreds for this amount!
I guess I am hurt and insulted and even a little angry that some people just dont charge the correct price for their unique items...and i making sense and a are my feeling justified? has anyone else felt this?

Re: need a hug

Big hugs for everyone who needs one on a Monday!

I use fabrics for all my items and I realise that many people have no idea how much they cost-let alone the time it takes you to track down the perfect one for a project.

Don't take it personally. Those who understand the cost of materials and appreciate the hours of work you put in are the buyers who seek your items out and are happy to pay for something special. And they are the ones who will love their purchase .... and that's the best reward!

HUGS to all who need it.
;)

Don't let it get you down. We seem to live in a fast food world where people think everything should be immediate and cheap.
So many people have absolutely no idea what it takes to make a quality handmade item.

I agree with everyone! The phrase "you get what you pay for" comes to mind. We all know what we pay for materials and the kind of time we put in to make an item, and many people out there have no idea. I put a statement somewhere in my shop about how much fabric costs and the time it takes to make a quilt. I haven't had anybody yet ask for an item cheaper but I don't think I'd have a problem saying no. I'd rather be offended by someone asking for a deal than build up resentments because I gave it away.
