item descriptions

Does anyone have advice for me on item descriptions? Should they be in bullet form- short and succinct? I wanted to tell the story behind each of the jewelry pieces I have created but worry that my descriptions are now too long. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!

I'd recommend reading up on SEO - that can be helpful for improvements. I personally like items with a story, but the details (like size, length, etc) in bullet-form. I'd also advice to work on your titles.

Your descriptions don't seem too long at all.

I don't think they're too long either. I really don't like long descriptions, but I find yours easy to read and understand. To the point and looks like you have your details in there too.

I agree with Alicia that the first couple of sentences should be all about your SEO key words to get the traffic to your store, but I think once people are there your story is what is going to sell the item.

Etsy did a great on line lab a while ago about how to tell your items' story and about how important it was. I wish I could find it for your. If I run across it I will post it.

Make sure your first few lines are using the keyword for the item. Those are the ones Google search is going to show to your customers. Then you can put a story about your item, more details, custom made options etc.

Working on this myself. Sometimes it is easy to be derailed, but looks like you are persistant and have done a great job with your shop.

An experienced etsy seller told me she thought nobody would bother to read my long descriptions but I had read that if you sell higher end jewelry, you really need to tell the story about what makes your item special. So I appreciate the feedback. Have been simplifying my titles, re-doing tags, working on photography. As you know, it never ends:-)
