how to create store credit

Hi All!!
I had a very wonderful customer who, unfortunately suffered buyer's remorse. She bought another item and suggested store credit! I jumped at this - being on vacation with limited computer access - but now I don't understand how to make it happen. Yikes! Any tips?
Cheers, Tracey

That question popped in my head last night, too.

Re: how to create store credit

I would just handle it off etsy. But the other alternative I suppose is that you could offer a refund through paypal if that was how she paid. What is your store policy on returns?

Re: how to create store credit

I will get them here and there and it seems easier to refund via PayPal (I think you have 60 days to do so in order to have the corresponding fees reversed). It is better to keep the credit and relationship with the customer by using store credit. I recently created folders in my convos and one specifically for that. I can save them in there for quick reference when the customer returns... Good to back this up somewhere else as well, but it's good for a quick reference. :) Maybe at some point there will be a coupon code for a dollar amount that can be assigned for that customer.

Re: how to create store credit

I wish they had coupon codes to make however many dollars off. That way you could do store credit and gift codes.

Re: how to create store credit

I think you could do store credit by having an "other" option at checkout. If you keep track of how much the customer paid the first time, you could count it sort of like a gift certificate that had money left over.

Re: how to create store credit

I think it is a good idea to have the other option at checkout. Easy on everybody at the end of any transaction!

Re: how to create store credit

Does anyone know how to enter a cash payment? I had a workshop on Tuesday and everyone paid by cash. I would like to enter the class as a sale on my shop. Does that sound like a good idea? If so, how do I enter the cash payments?

Re: how to create store credit

I think that's a good idea, but I think that etsy has a rule about selling 'somewhere else'. I'm not sure though.
