feedback on my zipper pouches - how do I target them?

I really like making zipper pouches! I've made dozens, sold a good number, here are some current examples:

http://www.etsy.com/listing/89994004/circuit-board-9-zipper-pouch-with-wrist

http://www.etsy.com/listing/88338879/three-trees-8-zipper-pouch-green-forest

My problem is that I'm not sure I'm targeting them correctly, like, I can't really describe in my head what they're for, who they're for, I can't even tell if I'm making the right sizes or if it's valuable to have a wrist strap or a clippy wrist strap or an inside pocket or padding or any of that stuff. I don't know what NORMAL PEOPLE buy zipper pouches for, and I've put so much thought into my *projects* and what *I* want, I have no idea what customers want anymore! Wallets? Coin purses? Wristlets? Cosmetic bags? Pencil cases?

I don't even know the question I'm asking here, I guess I just want to know how to find some focus here because I'm kinda swimming. I feel like people might just randomly find my pouches and think "that's a nice thing I would buy" - but I want to target people who are *looking* for the kind of thing I can make.

or maybe this is my question... how can I make something people are looking for?

you all are normal people, do you ever look for or need this sort of thing?

does that make sense? sorry, lots of questions I know, I'm just going nuts in my own head here!

To me these are pencil cases :-) from the size and shape that's just what they look like. However- you could use them for make up, or anything else!

Maybe that is the beauty of them- maybe this "problem" is your best selling point! I remember looking in a really successful shop where they sell purses, not quite the same, but similar, and they would list in the description the many many possible uses for them. I think that is what you should go with! You can add lots if different tags to the different items, and see what works best.

If you love making them, carry on! This will shine through to your customers. Good luck! :-)

Re: feedback on my zipper pouches - how do I target them?

I think all those things you suggested are good uses for a pouch like that. Personally, I have actually searched for those before - I was looking for just a catch-all kind of bag, not too big, not too small for putting my phone, cash and cards in to quickly while I throw it until another bigger bag. I believe I searched puch and wristlet.

If you're looking to get more hits, then maybe start with "zipper pouch" and put the style after that. I'll search for zipper pouch before a specific style. That will just be something I choose once I see my options.

Also, if you pick zipper and pouch as your item categories than you don't need to use it again in the tags. Use those spaces to put things like "make-up bag", "wristlet" (if you have a loop on it), "coin purse", etc.

HTH!

I find your items very handy for carrying a lot of small stuff in everyday bag and during the vacation too. I think I choose the word "Wallets" for description ( sure, I'm not native speaker)) but If I need this I search with wallet word:) Aslo cosmetic travelling bag - good too in my case.

I think Jo's said just about everything that I would've, I just had a look at the circuit board style listing and you've got "zipper" tagged twice :)

I have some of these planned for my shop too, but mine will be for knitting notions. If the inside is bigger than 8" long, they will fit double pointed needles for sock knitting.

Re: feedback on my zipper pouches - how do I target them?

I bought two like this before Christmas, they're great for all kinds of things, I use them for my small knitting stuff that I always need to have around, like scissors, needles, cable needles etc. Gave one to my mother for the same purpose, so she could leave it with the knitting project.

You may want to consider searching "zipper pouches", "zipper bags", etc. Take a look at what the top comptitors for those keywords are offering.

My mom would have liked those, she's elderly now but in her prime years she never carried a purse, just a little tiny change-clutch. Maybe your target is women who don't want to carry a purse, or moms of young girls who want a purse but just need a tiny one.

I also think they appeal those who have a larger bag, but want a smaller pouch inside so not everything goes to the bottom. That's what I like to use them for. I usually just like to put in my lipstick, medicine, things I would have trouble finding normally. Very nice pouches!

Re: feedback on my zipper pouches - how do I target them?

Try keywords such as: change purse, coin purse, clutch, makeup bag, wristlet, pencil holder, pencil bag ...you might get a good audience of moms who have young daughters in school, if those are long enough to hold pens/pencils and other small supplies.

pencil case! That's the word(s) I was trying to think of! That's what we called them way back when...in the 1970's!

Re: feedback on my zipper pouches - how do I target them?

dang it people I posted this for focus and now I know these could be quilting notion pouches too! lol. maybe I'll just title every single item a different thing and see what wins!

is it fair to call something a pencil case when it's not quite big enough to hold a pencil? I mean full unsharpened pencils need like a 9" bag, which is too big to be a wallet. but really who uses pencils anymore? like, actual pencils that you sharpen? I use them as photo props, and to turn headbands inside out, that's the extent of it, I'd never *write* with them.

Re: feedback on my zipper pouches - how do I target them?

I have a relative that uses just this type of bag for money and credit card in her baby's diaper bag. Good for when you don't want to carry a full bag. My daughters used them all the time... going to a dance or club. They wouldn't lose them because of the wrist strap. Yours are very cute.
