experiences with guest blogging?

Hi all. If folks have a chance, could you please chime in about any/all guest blogging experiences you have had?

One of my New Year's Resolutions was to make time to promote my shop, and I've read that contacting bloggers about being a guest is a good way to reach people. Do you find this to be true? Think it is relevant for jewelry?

Any and all comments are appreciated -- thanks!
Kristine

Re: experiences with guest blogging?

I have invite people to be guest bloggers and have been a guest on other blogs and love it. My blog http://www.portraits-by-nc.com/blogs has a variety of sections and especially one dedicated to shopping, which is a great section to feature a guest blogger from Etsy.

Guest blogging utilizes the amount of readers that each blogger has. If they are savvy enough, bloggers have their blogs set up so that the content is automatically pushed to all major networking sites, plus their email subscribers. Often both the guest blogger and the owner of the blog will share the content, which means that all of a sudden the content is shared to a large number of potential clients.

Google loves links from your blog to other sites and vice versa. The additional traffic that is generated does wonders for your blog and website.

However, I have to say that just writing a blog post on someone's blog is not enough. Both parties have to share the content via FB, G+, Twitter, Pinterest, Stumble and any other site they belong to. Also don't be surprised when people do not leave comments. Most don't like to leave the network they are visiting. A person on FB will like the post and even might share, but seldomly click over to leave a blog comment. To entice people to click to the blog giveaways work best.

I am featured on a blog 2JustBYou and offered a free portrait see here http://linkis.com/www.2justbyou.com/20/emwoC The amount of traffic it has generated to my blog and on other social networkign sites is incredible.

If you like to be featured on my blog http://www.portraits-by-nc.com and like to offer a giveaway item, email me. You can see my blog reach stats here http://www.portraits-by-nc.com/advertise/

So should you do it? Absolutely! It's a great way to get your work seen.

Thank you Enzie! That is such a vote of confidence. I just started accepting submissions today: http://www.raquelmanuela.com/blog-submission-guidelines/

I think having a guest blogger is a great way to share audience. But it is also a way to keep content fresh on a blog and helps keep me on schedule :)

Re: experiences with guest blogging?

I've done it a few times, I didn't get any sales but most of my views come from those features, and it's great to build your credibility and the more your shops name is plugged into a blogs and social media etc. The easier it comes up in Google searches. I wouldn't go crazy, but if things are slow then that can always be an option. Good luck

Re: experiences with guest blogging?

I am getting ready to have a short article posted on a blog with a circulation of 74,000, and I am hoping they will allow a dofollow link for me..Anyhow, if you are going to guest blog, you owe it to yourself to read the article above so you know what you are getting into, because if not done right, it can hurt your SEO.

Re: experiences with guest blogging?

Guest blogging, done right, can be very good for SEO. You would have toake sure that the blog you are guest writing on is a strusted blog by Google standards and not considered spammy in any way.

Google does like good quality links from trusted web sites and blogs onl. Links from "bad" web sites are considered link spam. Just be careful.
