Once they figure Canada and foreign currency out, other countries may roll out more quickly. Got my fingers crossed for you!

Re: direct checkout - a month later

I have seen a big increase in sales from Canada in my shop and they have all used DC. Can't wait for it to reach other countries.

Re: direct checkout - a month later

DC is being rolled out slowly over the course of a few months.

It took about 6 months before it was made available to all US sellers.

I still don't accept DC and don't have any plans to either simply because there isn't any immediate support for it. Too many sellers have had problems with getting their funds from Etsy and when there is a problem with the funds transfer, it can take days for Etsy to even acknowledge that there is a problem.

Re: direct checkout - a month later

i know there can be problems with DC but i would at least be able to offer it or try it myself for some time to decide then if i continue with it or not.
the thing is if i get more sales out of it i think i can live with a few minor problems.
so i´ll continue to wait for it...

Re: direct checkout - a month later

I'm hoping for direct checkout to be implemented for the Netherlands (or europe) soon. Before the chrismas buyers are coming should be nice. But no one knows when it will be available?

Re: direct checkout - a month later

Direct checkout is a wee bit of a pain. With paypal, my money is immediately available. When Etsy says "your money is on the way", what they really mean is that the money is going to be sent electronically to your bank. From there, it takes anywhere from 2-5 days to show up in your account. I like the direct checkout in theory but I have often shipped before I ever see any money from the sale (which was their original model)

I applaud the effort to address a buyer need, but it isn't ideal for sellers

Re: direct checkout - a month later

I thought it was now against EU or UK law for them to hold the funds for a further 2 to 5 days after the withdrawal is requested. I know that it was/is a problem with paypal...I opened my UK paypal account about a year ago and for the first few months they had to do a "security check" each time I made a withdrawal that would hold things up for 72 hours, as a way to get around the law...?

Re: direct checkout - a month later

I've heard a lot lately that people have had problems with direct checkout. I've (knock on wood) never had any problems with it. I get an email every Monday evening saying my funds were transferred and on Tuesday the money's in my bank. On the other hand when I withdraw from paypal it takes 3 to 5 business days before it hits my account.

Re: direct checkout - a month later

I love Direct Checkout and haven't had any issues as a seller. More than half of my sales in the past year have been with DC. A day or two after a sale I can click a button to get an earlier deposit into my checking account. Since I'm not strapped for cash to maintain my shop, waiting 2-3 days for my money is not a problem for me. I'm even able to transfer the money before I ship an item. It doesn't matter to me if a buyer pays with DC or Paypal. As long as they choose to buy from my shop I'm thrilled. :)

Re: direct checkout - a month later

I just got the message on Friday that it was available for me, so I immediately set it up. Now I'm just waiting to see if it brings any more orders.

I don't really mind waiting a couple days to get the money on my account. It already takes like 3 days when I transfer money from PayPal, so it doesn't make a difference to me - only less fees to pay, right?

Re: direct checkout - a month later

If it makes anyone feel better, I haven't seen an increase in actual sales numbers, but I HAVE noticed a whole lot of customers using DC to pay for their purchases. Even my existing customers have used DC once it became available, when they had paid using PayPal in the past.

The only real advantage to DC is the use of Etsy Gift Cards, but (a) I don't know a single shop owner who's had an item paid for using an Etsy Gift Card (and I know a few shop owners with over 5000 sales each) and (b) I have never had anyone redeem a GC in my shop either. But with the holidays coming up, people might start getting some EGCs in their stockings...so who knows?

Direct Checkout fees are much higher than PayPal's, so that's a real pain the butt - but giving customers the extra option just makes for a better sales experience, I think.

Re: direct checkout - a month later

Ok, here's a different sort of question about DC ... I think!

I offer DC in my shops. So can people in ANY other country who have one of the credit cards that can be used with DC use it to make a purchase in my shop? Or is it just shoppers in those countries where DC has rolled out that can use DC in my shop?

Re: direct checkout - a month later

I'm in the UK too and don't have the option yet. Still not sure if I should use it though. There seem to be so many negatives.

Has anyone out there really seen an increase in their sales by having direct checkout? Don't most people have a Paypal account these days?

I would love some help in deciding what to do, if or when I'm offered DC.

Re: direct checkout - a month later

I've had direct check out for awhile now and probably 60% of my sales are through DC. Sales have increased too, but it's hard to say whether they would have increased anyway.

I've had no issues with it at all and would definitely recommend.

Tana - anyone who has a credit card can use the DC in your shop. I have had international customers use DC before it was rolled out to their countries.
