digital postage scale RECOMMENDATIONS? :)

Hi everyone,
I think the time has come to buy a postage scale. I'm looking for a few opinions to help me in my search for a good one. Something digital...something that can handle up to 15 lbs (just in case). Any input, good or bad, is appeciated!

I got one on ebay for $16. It works great and can weigh items up to 50 pounds. This is the one that I bought!

I purchased mine on Amazon and it arrived today. I'm loving it already. I had a food scale at first and it was poo. I have larger items and boxes and they would cover the numbers on the scale. The one I have now is great. It was about $17.

Thank you for posting this - I was wondering about the same thing.
How does it actually work?
Do you just use it to weigh and go find the postage online, or does the scale also give you the price?
I'll think of getting one when I start making more sales... :)

I bought mine on ebay for about $20 including shipping. I'm sure you can get one at Walmart or Staples (or any office supply store). I'm not sure what the maximum weight is on mine.

KBJ, my scale has a button on the side that lets me lock the weight if I can't see the numbers. That way when I take the package off, the weight stays visible until I reset it back to zero.

Mika, you weigh your package and use usps.com to calculate your postage. If you're going to use Paypal or Etsy shipping to print your labels you can use the commercial rates.

We just have a small digital scale that hubby has had for years. It handles our vintage clothes and packaging just fine. Love using the etsy shipping label function- so easy to print the label and drop off the package without standing in line at the p.o.

I have the same one as KBJ. i've had it for over a year. It works perfect & I love it. I just enter the weight into the Etsy Shipping label form and it calculates everything. Most of my items weigh under 4 oz but I have figured the weight for larger items I mail not related to etsy and it works fine for that also.

Judy - the food scale I had didn't have the lock function. The scale I ordered from Amazon does. Plus the face of the scale is much larger and the weight shown is in front of where the package sits so it won't cover the numbers.

Wish I had known all of these things before I purchased my first scale, but I'm happy with the one I just ordered : )

Hmm, good to know!
I use the food scale to estimate the shipping when I list, but bring the item to USPS to ship.
I've gotta try Etsy label next time! (well, hopefully next sale soon...)

I got a Biggest Loser food scale from Bed bath and Beyond. Granted it only goes up to about 6 lbs, but it is digital and for under $10 you can't really beat it...

I leave my packages out for my mailman to pick up if I'm going to be home, otherwise I drop them off in the blue box outside the post office on my way to wherever I'm going. My packages are small first class parcels (6x9 flat poly envelopes) .

I've bought a few scales and had terrrible luck with them. I recently bought one at the post office, it will weigh up to 10 lbs. It's about the size of a half sheet of paper. Super easy to use.
It was only 39.99 and I love it

I have a big mamma jamma! I paid 39.00 and got it from Sams Club, it does up to 200 lbs, yeah a little much but I needed one that day, and the only other choice I had (in that price range) was one that goes up to 6lbs office depot lol figured go big or go home! ;) Good Luck!

If you use the Etsy postage, where do you get the adhesive labels?

I print out the labels on paper and tape them on the package, but some suppliers on here have GREAT deals for the sticker paper!

I order my adhesive shipping labels from Amazon. I use Avery's 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches, which is 2 labels per page. They work great, and I don't even add tape.

Thank you so much for asking this, I have been worrying about buying a scale and never thought to ask for help! Thank you so much for the link to the $20.00 scale!

I found a bunch of adhesive mailing labels that are made from recycled materials on clearance at a large store for super cheap! I always check clearance sections in every store I go to to see if there is anything that I can use for my shop, it doesn't always pay off but sometimes it really does.

I have a small digital scale I bought at Walmart for $25.00. It weighs up to 15 lbs. and has a hold button, so if my package covers the display, I can lift it up and see the final wt. It has served me well. I usually use the Paypal postage printer (chuckle). I type in the wt. and then choose the type of shipping I want to use (usually the cheapest). My little scale is perfect for my needs right now.
