customer wants to cancel order, but I already sent the items.

Advice?

I hadn't marked it shipped yet, but it says in my policy once I ship it you can't cancel, and that I only do refunds in certain situations.

just want to approach this the right way

You are inquiring as to your own shipping policies?
This is a hard one? It's not marked shipped but you
already shipped it. It would definitely depend upon
the circumstances as to why? How does one refund
when it's already shipped ?

If you already shipped the item, then be honest with the customer and tell them that. If it is an item that you think you could sell again no problem, then I would say that you could tell the customer that you could refund them, once they send the item back, it arrives in the same condition and minus shipping, relisting, and additional fees that you already had to pay.

I'm wondering if a: it's rude to say sorry I already shipped it even though I hadn't gotten the chance to mark i did yet and b: what's a polite way to say I can't cancel the order...

The buyer can refuse the package when it arrives. As long as she doesn't open it the P.O. will return to sender. You can offer a refund minus the original shipping fee after you get it back.

Whenever I refuse a package I bring it to the post office unopened and tell them I want to return to sender. I've only done it a few times but it was never a hassle.

haha, thanks for your help everyone. I guess I am going to stick to my policy. I guess it just feels weird because her order wasn't large, but I also forget about the time and the money I put into already. Hopefully it doesn't result in negative feedback. And thank you Sheri for the kind words. :)

Definitely be honest with the customer and let them know their order shipped and when. Perhaps they need the cards for a certain date and are requesting a refund because they think they will no longer get there in time. A quick email could fix that.

Just bought a card FunGirlsCards. My g'mother wouldn't want one but I sure know plenty that will love a fun laugh! May you have a successful holiday season with Etsy. I would have bought another to compensate for the loss of this customer's refund but my g'mother didn't laugh. I'm still tickled. (grins)

Have her not open the package when she gets it and return to sender so there is no cost and return the money not a big deal and you can re-sell the cards I do not think they were personalized were they

I don't think it is rude to refuse to cancel the order if you have already shipped. Even if they are not custom made items, the transaction has been completed. You have a policy about returns, stick to it!
