@JewelsbyTrish Facebook ads are sort of expensive.. You can set any limit you want but, Etsy's minimum budget is $1 a week & Facebook's is $1 a day.. You bid on ads rather than paying a set fee, & you can choose whether you want to pay per click or per impression. The trouble is if you bid too low your ads will never get shown.
To lay my experience so far I have spent a little over $6 the last two days, got about 15 new fans & no sells.. On Etsy so far I have spent a total of $0.53 got 595 impressions, 3 views & a $12 sale.
search ads were only to make Etsy more money... i will never pay for them. And when they get too much like Ebay, I leave. Only 4 per page... they made it sound better than it would be... it was designed for ETSY. We are Etsy's product. They are a for profit business and we are their product.... just like our inventory is ours. We are Etsy's inventory and they are trying to make more money off of us... NOT me... And the return is silly at best...
You pay all this extra money for 'views'... NO ... POTENTIAL views... and Etsy gets richer while every one who bought it gets poorer and less views... and because so many people were so happy about it ... the next time they try to make themselves richer off of us... its gong to be even more expensive to us and even more Ebayish... why would I pay for potential view, when I already have potential views... Etsy is smart... and so many bought it... they are making much bigger profits... are you/?? doesn't appear so. But they sound so convincing and make it sound like you need it and have to have it to succeed... and they act like they care about your shop... NO they care about making money for themselves...
I hope it blows up in their faces... they had a good thing and gradually ruining it.
Nope, no sales here from it. A couple favorites but nothing substantial. I only set it for $5 for this first week to try it out. I may try playing with the weekly amount a few times to see if that makes a difference. Probably to soon to tell.
several days now and no sales resulting from impressions...since there are only 4 ads per search page I am wondering if I have squandered my $23 for the week...If there are no sales I will not be renewing and it seems that no one has reported a massive increase, or any increase in sales as was implied.... well I was willing to give it a go and I have..... I think I will stick with my constant listings......
Everyone has some very interesting questions. . . one thing that stands out is the question about views. . .whether or not your using the search ads. For those that are down in their overall views, have you updated your products recently? Changed your titles and tags? are you running any specials that just ended? Have you been promoting and then stopped?
There are so many factors that go into this. . . it is hard to give a general answer since each situation is different. Truly, all of us need to constantly keep our shops fresh. . . a new item daily, or at least update a current listing. Keep promoting your business all the time. .. when we stop doing these things it does not take long before we see business drop off. Really there is no specific answers or some magical trick that will bring in sales. . . we just need to keep sharing what is working with each other and make changes as we go. . . nothing stays the same, including views by potential customers.
Good morning,I got 2 orders from the ads. But many views,I only spend $5 but I think my tags are very good. So I think will be great to check your listing and update the tags. :)
Has anyone thought about this? Every time a seller builds a treasury that hits on one of your search ads.. .you have to pay for that. Anytime someone types the right magic word ... whether they are a buyer or not- you pay for.
i could sit here all night and type in silver earrings and whose ever tags that hits... their $5.00 they spent is going to Etsy... They are making more money and i am wasting yours... What are you really paying for???
Tell you what- everyone should just send the money they would pay for their search ads to me and i will use 50% to feed starving children across the globe and the other 50% I will be a stay at home mom and live nicely all year... because the money you are spending on these isn't nearly put to as good of use.
But because i don't lie to you and tell you that giving your money to me will help your store... you won't do it. ... Because I'm just honest and didn't sell you hard enough...
No sales here, but of course lots of views. I only committed to $5/week and I can't see spending more than that on them. Ever.
I am wondering, if I run the ads for a 2nd week, whether the numbers will re-set or continue to build? And if they do re-set, will the current data be available on a historical basis?
Keep in mind that you get charged different amounts for different keywords or tags. Some words cost you many times more than others. !! (there is a listing somewhere in the Adwords section)
So, make sure that these expensive words are pertinent to your products and eliminate those that aren't.
Otherwise you could be spending a lot of your ad dollars on expensive but worthless search terms.
We have had 1 sale. I'm also running facebook and google ads right now as a test run. Google is much better at getting sales, facebook is good at getting us more fb friends, but etsy ads seem to be the best bang for the buck.

WHAT?! Is this true? This just makes things more complicated and discouraging. Anybody know if this is true and where I can read up on it?
