Re: advice to get more reviews

Check out this thread that was started recently about reviews. It might help. :)

But sadly, your stats are the norm. I have 42 sales with 6 reviews.

Re: advice to get more reviews

Never beg for reviews, it anoys most of your customers and might even lead to lower reviews.
Instead impress your customers with stunning work and perfect customer service and they will want to tell the world about it.
Also remember that no news from customers is good news. They would definately contact you if they were unhappy with their purchase.

I have 1,083 reviews (5 star rating) on 1929 sales.
But most of those reviews were given during the old feedback system (positive, neutral, negative; no stars yet).

Re: advice to get more reviews

One thing that can prompt it is if you send a business card or note with the item you sell, saying something along the lines of "Feel free to leave feedback on my etsy". You could also contact the person directly to ask that everything was okay with their item, when they respond presumably saying 'Yes, great' you can then open it to "I'm so glad you like it! (Insert chit chat about the item in question here) Feel free to leave a review on etsy if you get a spare minute".

I found that a lot of people that see my work come to etsy through Facebook or word of mouth, so they are not regularly on this site and only made an account to buy my item

Re: advice to get more reviews

I would actually refrain from following up from customers once the item has been delivered. They might consider it spam.

The most I do is when a person buys something, in the automatic notes i have a little thing saying, "If you love the item, feel free to come back and leave a review."

Beyond that, there is really nothing else we can do. Like BeaG said, we can beg for reviews. Just hope that they do come back and leave one.

Re: advice to get more reviews

Never ever contact your customers after a transaction for feedback!
Again: most people find that annoying.
The only reason you got their e-mail address is to be able to handle the transaction. Everything you send them afterwards is spam.
And Etsy already spams them for us....
Remember your customers usually aren't daily Etsy users, like we are.
In fact, lots of customers are brand new to Etsy and couldn't care less about a review system.

Re: advice to get more reviews

Usually when i send the final high resolution files through email, i add a note "Please remember to leave a review, you will make me happy".
When a customer leave me a review i send a convo, thanking and i give them a coupon with -10% for the future purchase.

you think this is spam?

Thanks for your advices!

Re: advice to get more reviews

I definitely don't consider it spam as a buyer. If you are going to just message saying "Leave me feedback" it will not be appreciated however you should always be following up with handmade items to ensure they arrived safely, you would be already having a conversation with them. This isn't eBay, we don't spout factory made rubbish here. So there needs to be more communication.

When I buy special handmade items I am disappointed when the seller does not follow up and ask me how it is, arrived safely, if I have any other ideas etc. It's as though they just want sales sales sales!

Re: advice to get more reviews

Today i received eighth review!
I'm excited!

@Dani
Please, visit my shop... i'm a graphic designer, i sell customized digital file.
I have always communicated with the customer!
I have 8 beautiful reviews.
When I send the final files to the customer, i explain how to use them and i add the message "Please remember to leave a review, you will make me happy".
I think in my shop the customers want quickly an answer and a nice customization.
Am I wrong?

Re: advice to get more reviews

Well done Tania that's great! I had a look at your shop, you present yourself very professionally :)

Personally I'd follow up three or four days later asking if it went through okay and are they happy. If they don't respond then just assume they don't really have the time to spare, but that nothing is wrong. However I have found that when I follow up to make sure everything is okay, it puts them in a good mood and to want to leave a review. Often the automatic etsy 'leave feedback' emails are deleted with the rest of the junk in emails however a 'conversation received from__' will result in a click through to etsy. It means you don't have to directly ASK for feedback but you're more likely to tempt them back to etsy and remember that they bought from you.

Am I making sense? x

Edit: Your English is perfect! :)
