Your Number One Tip for Making Sales?

Hello Etsy sellers! I've really been working on making more sales, and I was wondering: What is the number one thing that has helped you make sales? What did you not know when you started that you wish you did? What helped you get the most views/favorites?
You experienced sellers know so much more than us beginners, and it would be awesome to hear your advice. Thank you!

Make friends.

I use Twitter a lot and have made friends through my blog.
It takes time and you cannot do it simply to get more hits to your shop, but I will say it absolutely helps my shop being friendly with people online.

Increase your number of listings. When I hit 500 listings, I saw a big increase in views and sales, but when I hit 1000 listings, sales increased enough for me to make etsy my full time job!

Re: Your Number One Tip for Making Sales?

Treat your shop like a real job! I barely did anything my first year on Etsy, I had about 14 listings and made no new ones all year. When I decided to start treating it like a job, working on my shop every day I could for 8 hours a day (or more or less depending on the day), making new items, fixing photos and tags, promoting, reading in the forums for information THEN my shop took off. That is my advice, don't sit back and expect the sales to come, keep working!

~ Stay active in the Etsy community
~ List often
~ Change up your tags
~ Promote on other sites!

And the biggest:
~ CONSISTENT photos... Something I'm STILL working on :)

Re: Your Number One Tip for Making Sales?

Staying active here on Etsy gets views. Making sure I have great pics gets my items in treasuries. Using good keywords brings the right people to my shop. All those things can bring about sales eventually.

But sending out newsletters and using Facebook to connect with people in a friendly way gets more immediate sales so I would say that marketing is number 1 for me.

Re: Your Number One Tip for Making Sales?

I agree with all of the above. One thing that works for me is that I use my location as one of my tags. Its one of the most searched key words in my shop. I have been contacted by a lot of people near me because of it.

Re: Your Number One Tip for Making Sales?

Good thread - thanks for the information - but as for 500 items - we've been working our tails off to try and get to 200!

Re: Your Number One Tip for Making Sales?

We subscribe to etsy search ads, we started low at $7/week and now we are paying $200/week, yes we have $1,000+ etsy bill a month but we are making $$$.

it is our full time job. we are peons compared to some sellers here on etsy but we are paying the bills and thats what counts to us.

We use Social media daily, fav and heart everyday, participate in forums, teams, network........

I started in JAN 2012.!!!!!!!!
