YouTube Promotion

I make YouTube videos for some of my items. Most of them are for items that I had on eBay when I was selling on there. Seeing how successful this is, I really should be making more of them.

I have some videos with thousands of views, the most being about 27,000 views. It seemed a shame not to throw my Etsy shop link on there. I put my Etsy link on most of my videos yesterday, and, according to Etsy Shop Stats, I'm already getting hits from YouTube.

I think videos are so fun to do, but I haven't had much luck getting views on YouTube. I posted this a while back and only had 38 views.

27,000 seems so amazing. WIsh I could do that, too. Any suggestions?

@TaylorArts: I'd title it differently, integrating "Woodworking" into the title, and putting search terms, in general, into the title, just like with Etsy relevancy. Also, some search phrases for tags instead of single words might help. I'd also change the category to "how to" instead of "entertainment."

As a side note, you might want to make your Facebook page a clickable link by adding the http:// onto the web address on your video.

My computer got stuck at the :10 mark on the video--computer is running super-slowly lately. I liked the first ten seconds of it, though!

Laura, you have so many wonderful ideas! Thanks for sharing this one with us :) I'm actually pretty excited to get started going some youtube videos for my Photography for Beginners website, and for my shop here on etsy... and you've given me even more inspiration!

I am new to etsy and am a bit confused about your post that uses a you tube link in your listing . I just sent an email to etsy a few days ago about this very subject and was told that it was against etsy policy to redirect to another web site in your listing but that I could post it in my profile or shop policy. The team member then directed me to 2 Help post that did not seen to have anything to do with what I was asking. I did find an etsy policy statement that read it was againt policy to redirect to another web site where you are SELLING your items. So Since I am not selling on youtube is putting the link in listing as lauraslastditch example. OK????

It is my understanding that as long as you're not linking to another site selling the same items, it's kosher. There are people who link to Flickr or other photo sites when they need to post more than five photos, for instance.

Great idea Laura, I have been rolling the YouTube idea in my head for a while now. Because people see my smoking bottles and say " I don't get it" or "What do you do with it?" So I thought about making a short video of how to light an incense smoking bottle. Other than that kind of video, I have no clue as to what other kind of video I could do for my incense products. Also I have no clue as to how to make a YouTube video in the first place.

I think a video would help you a lot. Even if you don't have a video camera, you can make a video on your regular camera. I never write a script, but it's a good idea to do so, so yours will sound better than mine. Then just go to YouTube, upload it, add your link, tags, and a description. Just go out there and do it, even if it's not perfect. You can always make a better one later. Then, copy and paste the video's link into your item description.

Just dive in! It's not particularly difficult to figure out. If you can list on Etsy, you can post a YouTube video.

Thanks Laura, I will try it and see what happens. I do have a digital, not a great one, hence the some of the stock photos in my shop. But may be good enough to do a video.

Just checked Google Analytics, and saw that my YouTube traffic has a bounce rate if only 5%, so that is very encouraging. Not only is there a decent amount of traffic, but they stay in my shop instead of leaving right away.

What an excellent way to promote your shop! It never occurred to me to do something like that...now you have me thinking...maybe a demonstration video? Anything to bring in more traffic is a good thing, thanks!
