Would you send a partial refund?

Hi!

I just had a sale but the buyer didn't use the coupon code for the sale I have right now. I feel guilty not sending her a partial refund for what would've been the discount, but at the same time buyers need to be responsible for those types of things.

Should I refund her the discount?

You can make your sales available, but you can't make your customers use them! It seems no matter how many times I advertise sales to most of my customers -- even repeat customers who get emails and cards with their previous purchases -- they don't use them! Let the sales bring in people looking for deals, and let customers who decided to invest in your art do so.

I think that she hasn't used the coupon it's her responsability! Maybe she wanted pay the full price to respect your work!

I advertised a coupon code on my shop announcements last month. I would say out of 20 sales during the month, only 4 used the coupon code. I surely didn't refund the discount to the ones that missed out. It's definitely NOT necessary for you to do that. Now if someone ordered and then messaged you that they forgot to use the coupon code, I would offer them the refund for the discount amount.

With coupons, I wouldn't worry about it. I would do a partial refund if the customer asked for it in this instance, but if they don't send you a message saying, "I forgot to use the coupon code! Is there anything you can do?" then I wouldn't worry about it. You don't get an automatic refund if you forget to use a coupon at the fabric store, and they always have coupons available.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Did she email you saying she forgot? If that is the case, yes I would give her a partial refund.

This happened to me quite a few times when my daughter was first born. I was exhausted 24/7 and after hitting submit I'd remember I forgot the coupon code. I can tell you this, the stores hat were sympathetic still get my business. The one that refused to help, I never shopped there again.

I had a coupon for 20% for my 20th sale, but the buyer didn't use it. I messaged her about it since the coupon was a one time deal. She said she didn't know how to do the coupon, so I refunded the money she would have saved. That was a special circumstance though.

And yes, if she messages you I would definitely refund her. That's just good customer service. :)

I had the same thing happen during my Christmas in July sale. I had the same thinking as a previous poster, if anyone e-mailed me about the coupon I would have gladly refunded it back.

i just had a case like this, i have a sale running for christmas items to encourage people to buy them early but the customer paid the full price.she even bought an item where the shipping is higher than the item price.

It's a nice idea but not something you'll be able to maintain as your shop takes off.
