Would NOT Having Direct Checkout Turn You Off?

Would NOT Having Direct Checkout Turn You Off?

I am curious, I do not have direct checkout, and what I have heard form users, is 1/2-1/2.

So what does everyone think?

How has DCO worked/not worked for you?

Re: Would NOT Having Direct Checkout Turn You Off?

It's whatever. When I first added it, I was at 50-50%. Then I started back getting more PayPal sales. I like giving customers choices. That's the only reason I still have it.

Honestly, I would still buy from you whether you use DC or not. I mean, at one point in time, prior to 2011, PayPal was the only CC option, other than sending an invoice. So, for me it's not a big deal.

Question: why haven't you activated it? Most of the drawbacks no longer exist for sellers who have been selling longer than 90 days.

Re: Would NOT Having Direct Checkout Turn You Off?

It works fine. I just noticed though that they started charging a fee to use it. There was no fee at first.

Re: Would NOT Having Direct Checkout Turn You Off?

I'd rather etsy earned my fee than paypal earning my fee.

Re: Would NOT Having Direct Checkout Turn You Off?

I just opened my shop in July, but loved looking through etsy before than. I wouldn't purchase anything because paypal was the only option for checkout. I had a paypal account, but never used it....I like the option of being able to choose what card I want to use to pay, as a buyer, direct checkout would be my preferred payment option...so yes...not having it would have and did result in me not making a purchase.

I wouldn't be turned off if a shop didn't have DC, makes no difference to me :)

Re: Would NOT Having Direct Checkout Turn You Off?

I would say at least 75% of my sales are direct checkout now. I like direct checkout. I love that there's no hold on receiving funds until shipment now. That's definitely improved it.

There were no fees during the month of Sept. because they were trying to entice sellers to sign up. If you signed up during Sept. that's why you didn't pay fees.

No, because I always pay with Paypal. I accept DC in both my shops and about half my buyers have used it.

Re: Would NOT Having Direct Checkout Turn You Off?

I added it so people would have a choice. Also I've heard lots and lots of problems with PayPal and some people won't shop if PayPal is the only option. I've never had a problem myself but now customers have options. Also, if I did my math correctly, DC is cheaper than PayPal on smaller orders.

Interesting post. I sell lots of smaller items....do you really think direct checkout is less expensive?

Re: Would NOT Having Direct Checkout Turn You Off?

I'm loving that customers find it easier. I know a bit turnoff for my facebook fans was the Etsy enrollment bit. Just being able to click and buy seems to be working out well for them. For me, I think I was better off before because the funds were not so easy for me to get to :o) I'll have to set up a business account to keep the Etsy funds separate from my personal.

Re: Would NOT Having Direct Checkout Turn You Off?

I sure hope customers aren't turned off by lack of DC - I can't get it, being Canadian.

ps, is there any word yet on if it will be available in Canada anytime soon?

Re: Would NOT Having Direct Checkout Turn You Off?

I would love to be able to offer direct checkout as a payment option to my customers. Can't understand why not all US sellers have added it.

Re: Would NOT Having Direct Checkout Turn You Off?

In my shop either way is fine. I do have some that are DC but just as much Pay Pal. I would buy either way.
I heard they are trying to get Canada able to use DC by early next year.

Re: Would NOT Having Direct Checkout Turn You Off?

Since I turned mine on I've had mostly DC sales.

As a buyer on Etsy (I LOVE shopping on Etsy) it's convenience. And any way to make it convenient for a potential customer is the way to go in my eyes!!

Re: Would NOT Having Direct Checkout Turn You Off?

Like many other shops I can't have it even if I wanted to as I'm not based in the US, so no it wouldn't put me off.

Re: Would NOT Having Direct Checkout Turn You Off?

Thanks for this thread! I've gone back and forth with the idea of activating it. I've settled on activating it, but there's been a holdup with my approval- maybe my address is wrong or something. So... I've been lazy and not dealt with it in the last couple of weeks. But I think that buyers like having options, which is why I'm going to get off my butt and get it going!

Re: Would NOT Having Direct Checkout Turn You Off?

I didn't care whether the shop has DC or not until today. Today, my mother in law and grandmother in law asked me what I want for Christmas. I found something really cute on Etsy I would like to have but not really sure I would like to buy myself. I was about to let them know the listings and noticed the shop doesn't have DC. Both my mother in law and grandmother in law are not really good with computers, so there is no way they are going to figure out how to use credit cards through Paypal, so I had to remove the item from my "I want these for Christmas" list.

Re: Would NOT Having Direct Checkout Turn You Off?

I held off adding it for a while. I'm glad I added it. I wouldn't say my sales have soared from it but about 2/3 of my customers are using it. I happen to love using PayPal so I wouldn't be bothered if a shop didn't accept direct checkout.

Re: Would NOT Having Direct Checkout Turn You Off?

No I wouldn't have a problem purchasing from you if you didn't offer DC. I actually like using PayPal but do offer DC now that they removed many of the restrictions.

Ditto.

Which makes us excluded from Gift Cards too.
