Why use Direct Checkout?

Does anyone use direct checkout ? If do do you like it? What are some problems with it? Have your sales increased since getting it? I am finally eligible to get it and would like ti know how it is working out for people first.

Re: Why use Direct Checkout?

I'd like to get it, but I guess I'm not eligible yet. I wasn't really looking into it, but then a customer had trouble with paypal, and I wished that I could offer direct to her.

Re: Why use Direct Checkout?

I started it maybe last week. No sales with it yet, but the fees work out to about the same as paypal (a bit more or less depending upon total). I've heard that it can be a bit of a long wait for a deposit at first, but overall I don't think it'll hurt to have it as an option.

Re: Why use Direct Checkout?

I have direct checkout and I like it, most of my customers are paying via direct checkout and I'm assuming that if I had only paypal they could've pass my shop. When you register and verify your account it takes 10 days to get your money but after that it's about every couple of days. You can try it and if you don't like it you don't have to use it.

Re: Why use Direct Checkout?

I heard a lot of folks were on the waiting list. You might scroll through past threads, because I feel like this was recently discussed in great detail.

I was on the list for a few weeks, but saw a notification today that I was ready to set-up my direct checkout. So they must be rolling out to more folks.

My one concern: folks mentioned it is the first form of payment offered to customers rather than simultaneously with PayPal. The fees are slightly higher, but I do welcome a change from PayPal.

Re: Why use Direct Checkout?

I think it will boost sales. If someone does not have a Paypal account they can still buy. I've had friends and neighbors tell me that they didn't want to start a Paypal account just to buy a pair of earrings, but I think strangers just pass me by if they feel that way. Problem for me is the shipping ... you have to type in the address in Paypal shipnow. All in all it's a plus, though. I've had it for a week or so and more have bought through the direct check out than Paypal.

Re: Why use Direct Checkout?

I have had it for a couple weeks and have had 3 sales that used it. Someone here on the team shared with us to still be able to print out our labels on paypal which I very much appreciate. The only downside is wating for funds and until after the items ships and the 10 day waiting period in the beignning.

Re: Why use Direct Checkout?

I have had it for a couple weeks and everyone was using direct checkout except returning customers that already had a paypal. I think it's a great option to have for those that don't already have a paypal acct.

Re: Why use Direct Checkout?

Thanks everybody, I did go ahead and sign up. Looks like I have to wait a few days to confirm my bank account. Do you know if people can still buy before it is confirmed? Or will it be inactive til then?

Re: Why use Direct Checkout?

My sales have increase quite nicely since adding direct checkout. Yes, I would rather have access to my money faster but I have gotten several sales that I would not have gotten without the option.

Re: Why use Direct Checkout?

Mine is still in the waiting period as I activated it only three days ago. I've had a sale each day since with the customer using DC. The money is there. It just won't be available for deposit until the waiting period is over. No biggie for me since my items are made in advance and I don't have to use the money to buy supplies for anything custom. If you don't want to get stuck in limbo, you can turn the option off while going through the 10-day wait. :)

Re: Why use Direct Checkout?

Last three sales I have had have been by direct checkout. I like it as it gives the customer another way to purchase. Some people just don't like PayPal. I figure that if I wouldn't have had it I may have not had those sales. You do have to wait a few days for the funds to hit your bank account, but I am good with that. :)

Re: Why use Direct Checkout?

People can still buy in while waiting for the bank account to be confirmed. I had this happen last night and confirmed my bank account after a sale.

I've read of a lot of people saying this increased their sales.

I turned it on the other day and I'm excited. You do have to ship though before the money is transferred over and a lot of people don't like that, but I decided that as long as the customer has paid and it's just a hold in funds, I'll just learn to do things a bit differently.

Re: Why use Direct Checkout?

I've had one sale so far. Money is deposited ever Monday without having to request, which is nice...with it was daily instead of weekly but oh well. Wish shipping was integrated so I wasn't responsible for entering the buyers address information on the shipping label. Glad to know about the PayPal label printing/postage payment option! Any assistance avoiding the post office!!!

Re: Why use Direct Checkout?

I have had it in my shop for about a month now and have received a lot of sales from buyers using it.

I'm all for giving my customers choices. I'm very happy with it. :)

Re: Why use Direct Checkout?

I started using it no sales yet with it. I heard about having to type the address in for shipping. Which I think is no big deal takes a minute. BUT I heard the customer doesn't pay shipping. Is this true?? I don't sell enough to do that I will be giving the stuff away, lol

Re: Why use Direct Checkout?

I just started and have only had one sale with it so far. The only hassle was figuring out how to print the shipping label because at the time I didn't know you could still use paypal for shipping. You just need to keep money in paypal to pay for the shipping since you don't have the customer's payment in your account yet. I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Re: Why use Direct Checkout?

Gina,

If you charge for shipping, the customer will still pay for it if they use DC. A lot of people write about how they have to pay out of pocket for shipping before actually getting the money because you have to ship the item before Etsy will release the payment to you. So, you are getting the shipping fee, but only after the shipment has actually been sent. Maybe that's what you are thinking about?
