Why am I not selling?

Hello etsyan neighbors! I've been in this comunity since last October and still haven't sold one item from my shop meNENices.

I frequently add new items (lately it's been almost everyday), update my listings, tags and shop info, I have tried different prices since opening and different approaches to similar pieces...but still I haven't sold anything here, yet.

I believe the shop has given me more visibility but not online sales. Could you help me with a critique, please?

I really thank you (in advance) for helping me.
Happy sales to you!

Re: Why am I not selling?

Are you doing anything with your facebook page? have you thought about moving further into the social media realm and trying twitter or instagram? I've had 3 sales from instagram (maybe even more, but that's what I've tracked).

Also, have you done your homework on SEO? It SERIOUSLY helps! Obviously you want to get in front of people ACTIVELY searching for what you have to offer.

Lastly, remember you're in a very competitive market. YOU WILL MAKE IT! Just stay determined, get more listings in your shop (I would shoot for a goal of 50 right now) and grow from there.

Best,
Kelly

Re: Why am I not selling?

I completely agree with the social networking. Instagram helps a whole lot! (Hashtags are so popular)
Have you also tried marketing locally? I live near a bunch of local vintage and coffee shops that are more than happy to present some of my business cards!

Re: Why am I not selling?

28 listings really isn't that many. If you've been here since October, that's an average of roughly 5 listings per MONTH. I agree with Kelly; shoot for a goal of 50 (then 100, then 200) and constantly add new items because having 28 just isn't much for search to find. Think of it this way: If I set a goal of wanting to sell 50 items per month, that's not even possible if I'm not even LISTING 50 items per month. If I want to sell $500 in product each month, I'd better be adding $500 in product each month. If the demand is there (and it is, or else Etsy wouldn't be thriving like it is), you have to have the supply to meet that demand.

Re: Why am I not selling?

^^Those are really great suggestions!

Here are a couple more:
Banner: I love your quote, but I don't get a sense of what your shop is about from the banner. This is your branding, this is essentially the first thing that people see for your shop - literally your shop front. Think of a brick and morter shop, the front tells you everything you need to know about the store before you walk in. How expensive its going to be, what they sell etc. To me your branding doesn't fit what you sell!

Photos: Your photos are really inconsitent. I love the ones on the wood background, but I highly dislike where you have two photos in it. It's too much to look at in a thumbnail! Choose the best picture, and it will attract more people to click and see more pictures! Most of your modeling shots are really good, though the lighting is slightly inconsistent - simply lighten some of them up should help! You have a few shots on striking white backgrounds, normally white works - here I think the wood backgrounds work better for you. They also look like snapshots compared to the other pictures in your shop.

Listings: I'm not great with titles, but I do know that the first three words are the most important for both etsy relevancy and google indexing. These should be the words people should type in to find your product, consider this carefully! Your descriptions seem good, but take the chance to write down 10 questions a customer may have about a product (color, size, use etc) and make sure all of those are answered in the description. Your tags need work I think, I only went through a couple listings but many are single words! You should be using commonly searched phrases to help you get found! Also go through your tags occasionally to see if you have anything seasonal. Like 'valentines day' is past, consider 'anniversary gift' instead, etc! Tags should be changed up often depending on the season and current trends!

Hope that helped! :)

Re: Why am I not selling?

You've got several different product lines going all at once...is there one that you like doing better than the others? The pillow and the magnets are nice, but they're all alone in there, and the rest of the shop is five or six different styles of fashion accessories. If it were me, I'd start with one kind of item and make a whole bunch in different sizes and colors, and wait to diversify until I'd built up a nice, full shop that looks consistent.

Re: Why am I not selling?

You definitely need more items, and some of your photos could use work. I agree that many of your modeled shots are really cute, but some of your other photos are out of focus or are cropped so that you can't see part of the item. Be sure to use plenty of light, use natural light or a full spectrum lamp if you need more light.

Also, you may want to update your tags, this item still has a tag for 'Valentines gifts'.

Use your shop stats to find the search terms that bring you the most traffic. If you need help finding more relevant tags, you could also try Google Adwords.

Re: Why am I not selling?

Thank you all for your advices!! I'm going to follow and try them.

I already started doing some of the things you wrote me but I believe I can do better, even in those areas. For instance online marketing - I've been studying this subject lately, borrowed some books and read online articles that helped. I use fbk but I don't get sales from there, only fans...

I'm starting to participate in craft fairs and shops in my area, which will help spreading my work.

Curiously, today I was designing a new banner for the shop because I felt it could be better. However, I haven't come to the right one yet.

My photos have been improving with time...I wasn't used to photographing products and it's been a fascinating experience. I'm growing, so I believe they will get better and more coesive.

This will take some time but I believe that, with your help today, I'll thrive! Thank you very much.

Happy sales to you all!
