Wholesale question

Hi everybody,

I just started contacting stores to see if they are interested in buying wholesale for me.

All that's running fine but I had one question. Seeing that my main business is greeting cards, a major holiday for me is Christmas, I was just wondering when stores start buying Christmas cards? I know it's way in advance but I can't really put a date on it. September? October? Does anybody have any idea?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Wholesale question

My girlfriend works for Hallmark Cards and they are always at least 8 months ahead of the game. Right now they are shipping the end of the Christmas orders and at the beginning of July they start processing the Valentine's day orders for 2014.

I buy wholesale for a B&M and apart from a few small orders that have yet yet to be placed, all ordering has been done for Christmas. The companies generally have their holiday offerings available in late April.

If you are planning on setting up some wholesale accounts for this holiday season, I'd suggest that you start making your calls very early next week.

Six to eight months is the general order lead time for most retailers. That allows the manufacturers to have the products ready to ship in time for the season.

Re: Wholesale question

Many gift shop type stores order their Christmas goods VERY early in the year. I speak from experience related to dolls, stockings and other soft goods. So if you want to get your line in stores for this holiday season, better get a move on! Good luck!!!

Also, there are wholesale teams here on Etsy that you might find useful. Take a look at this one: https://www.etsy.com/teams/10600/arts-business-institute
