Who sells on Etsy and through their own website?

Hello fabulous creators!

I am slowly (very, very slowly) adding all my best selling Etsy listings (baby and kids clothes) to my own website, www.rudyludy.com. I've had this site for years although only in the last year transitioned it to a WordPress site. Only in the last month have I been adding the product into the shop. I used to purely have a link to my Etsy shop. Once all the product is on there that I want I will start to advertise my site more. I also need to make sure all the SEO is done well (phew, it is a lot of work!)

So, I'm wondering which of you sell from Etsy and their own website?
How do sales compare? I am a Graphic Designer by trade with some web design and WordPress experience so it is not too hard for me to do this all by myself it just is quite tedious relisting and reformatting everything to fit my WordPress theme.

Just looking for some reassurance I'm doing the right thing! I tried Etsy's Pattern for a while but am trying to get away from all the fees so that is why I want listings that I don't have to relist constantly. And more control of how my site looks in general.

Any feedback and direction to useful resources is SO appreciated. Share your Etsy shop and 'own website' links please.

I sell on Etsy, as well as our own website. Most of our sales come from Etsy. When we do shows we handout stickers with our website on it. I use Etsy as a way to generate sales from people who don't know about us, and our website to generate sales from people who have met us at a market.. etc. It is more work to keep both updated, but I like having both, and I think having a .com on our business card is legit. :) Hope this is helpful!

We've had our Etsy shop for a couple of years and have had a website in the past, but have just directed people to Etsy for sales.I also get sales through Facebook. I am working on a new website now and plan to list our products and sell through it from now on. For now, most of our traffic is from Etsy.

Interested in knowing how the website does for you.

Etsy is definately easier to navigate, list product and learn how to sell. The support is unlimited for new sellers or us less "techie" people.
I've had my own website Patsyspetals.com for years, but did not know how to use it until I got some help. If you are thinking about doing your own website be sure you know how to use it or can afford someone to create it for you.
Mine needs work, and I get few sales from it, since I don't do enough maintenance on it. However, using Etsy, I learned a lot, including just how to use a computer, and still hope to make it worth while.
About getting a website, research cost first. If you are getting sales from Etsy I would build on that first.

I launched my website www.filomenamehendi.pt last November. I only have a few henna supplies listed to see if it worths to pay an upgrade and sell more products. In my country people don't really like to use credit card when making purchases online. They prefer to pay upon delivery. Just a small percentage of the population uses Paypal. So, I'm testing to see what happens.

Hi Claire! We have had both our Etsy shop and external website: www.BackyardSilversmiths.com online for about a year and it seems Etsy is the winner when it comes to international sales. The sheer SEO factor Etsy provides for international searches has been great and we've been thrilled with the result. Hope this helps! PS - your 'Future Jedi' design rocks! :).

I have www.agemstars.com for few months. I'm trying both, but, is hard to maintain two on-line store!
